The product, in the report: Cosco Simple Fold High Chair- Bowie Grey and Multi Color Arrows Model HC225FGTA
I bought a Cosco Simple Fold High Chair on 8/23/2021 to replace an older high chair for my toddler. Immediately, I noticed the seat had a deep recline that could not be adjusted. I was constantly adjusting my child during meals, and she was having a hard time with gagging during meals when she hadn’t before. She has had 2 almost choking incidents and ended up actually choking while in the chair since purchase and has never choked before. There is a MAJOR difference between gagging and choking. No doubt had everything to do with the improper reclining position of the chair.
On the morning she actually choked, I gave her the same breakfast she’s eaten a million times, and I was right there watching her like a hawk as always. She took a bite, swallowed, and I saw the fear in her eyes when it got stuck. I thought for sure she’d gag it up, but she didn’t. Her face turned red then almost purple in an instant. She tried to cough or cry and couldn’t. I knew she was in trouble. She was so far leaned back she couldn’t pull herself up and started clawing at the tray trying. All of this happened in a matter of like 3 seconds. I was already pulling the tray off then pushed her forward so her belly hit the little bar first (like a heimlich move) while my other hand was reaching for the buckles, and thankfully that was enough to dislodge the food. She projectile vomited, gasped for air, and started screaming which at that point was the most amazing sound in the world to me. This happened in under 20-30 seconds, and I was right there. What if I wasn’t? She was completely silent until the food was dislodged. She would have been choking in silence until I happened to notice my child was blue. If you know eating safety for babies and toddlers, you know that position is absolutely important when it comes to preventing choking. How many children have been potentially hurt by this high chair? Or maybe even killed? What if I hadn’t been attentive or was distracted by my other child this morning? Many parents just put their children in high chairs with food while they do other tasks. This high chair is dangerous for older babies and toddlers. It scares me to think what could have happened if I wasn’t right there to help clear my daughter’s airway, or if I didn’t know what to do to help a choking child. Most people haven’t taken even basic CPR classes.

The product, in the report: High Chair
The consumer stated that her 10 month old child at 17 1lbs was placed in the high chair, she then noticed the front legs were buckling causing the child to bend forward as to fall out. She immediately removed the child. It has a design flaw in the legs of the chair which is a safety hazard. This was the first time noticing this incident.
The manufacturer was not contacted as yet. There was no recalls for the product model number.

The product, in the report: Highchair Cosco Dorel Juvenile Group jasmine style
I am writing to let you know of a problem. My daughter called me crying that her 18month old daughter had gotten her foot stuck in the highchair she has which is a cosco dorel juvenile group jasmine style model number 03354. The baby got her foot stuck between the front bar and the tray. My daughter and her husband had to break the high chair to get the baby out without causing her harm to her foot. I am calling the company today to see if there is anything they can do. The high chair was bought brand new for the child that was in it and now she has gotten hurt. Her foot will heal however she will never go in that high chair again. Her foot is ok however there is some bruising and it is tender to the touch. I do not want to see another child get hurt the same way. She is tiny and was strapped in using the safety belts on the chair. She just put her foot in the space between the bar and the tray and was stuck, crying, and now her foot hurts her.

No one hurt Made Dec 16, 2012, sent to the company Dec 31, 2012, published by CPSC Jan 15, 2013
The product, in the report: Cosco Flat-fold High Chair Model HC146 BGT 111017GB, Dorel Juvenile Group Printed with jungle animals and brown accents. Beige tray and beige-coated metal parts and brown footrest.
I believe the seat-belt included with the Cosco Flat-fold Highchair needs to be modified to allow quick release of the child in case of emergency, such as choking. My child began to choke while properly secured in her highchair. I was unable to free her from the seatbelt, and had to lift her and her highchair to administer first aid.
My eleven-month old child was seated in her high chair eating dinner. The seatbelt was fastened securely and properly around her and the tray was in place. She began to display signs of choking - her face grew deep red and her mouth moved in a silent gagging motion as she struggled to breathe. Her eyes were bulging and she was not taking in air; she just kept struggling to thrust her tongue forward but was unable to push the food out of her throat or draw air. Her eyes looked terrified, but she could not cry out. It was clear she needed help. I reached for the seatbelt clasp to free her, but the buckle was jammed and would not release. I struggled with the belt but could not open the clasp. She was not breathing. I then tried lifting her out of the seat with the belt still attached, hoping it would break or that she would slide out, but the highchair lifted with her. It was clear that I would not be able to remove her from the seat.
I lifted both her and the highchair into the air and brought her as close to my body as I could. I could not sit and place her over my knee to administer proper first aid as she had an entire highchair, including the tray, attached to her body. All I could do was try to lean her forward on one arm, highchair and all, and hit her on the back with the other hand. It was difficult to find an effective angle with which to dislodge to obstruction, as the seat back blocked access to her back. I had to try many times, in the end quite hard, to dislodge the food enough that she could gasp. She gasped and struggled to breathe for several breaths before she was able to draw enough air to sob.
I have never been so happy to hear a child cry as when she finally drew air and was able to make a sound.
I still needed to sweep her mouth for the obstructing article of food, which was difficult to do as I had to reposition her with a highchair attached to her thighs. When she seemed stable, I was able to set her highchair back down and work on freeing her from the belt so that I could remove her, examine her further, and comfort her. We are fortunate that our incident was resolved with a child that was able to be comforted (after some time.) This could have ended tragically. Helping her while she was stuck in her high chair was difficult and terrifying, and it must have been painful for her to have a large highchair hang from her body.
The high chair restraint interfered with emergency care and did not easily release the child. Safer design of the restraint could prevent injuries in similar instances by addressing the following flaws. The seatbelt on the Cosco Flat-fold Highchair is difficult to disengage with one hand. The operator needs to be sure the buckle is lined up and that there is not too much tension on the buckle before pressing the tab or the buckle sometimes sticks closed. Also, the seatbelt design demands that each side of the belt be disengaged separately in a two-step process. The process of disengaging the buckle must be successfully performed twice to release the child. In a choking emergency, when the focus is on unblocking the airway so that a child can breathe, the operator may be unable to take his or her focus off of the child in order to successfully open the seatbelt. Additionally, it is difficult to free a child from this seatbelt with one hand, especially if the child is struggling. One hand is needed to steady the center piece while the other hand depresses the buckle-tongue and slides the pieces apart.
These changes to the seatbelt design would allow access to the child in an emergency:
1. The seatbelt on this, or any, highchair needs to be able to be disengaged quickly and easily with ONE HAND to allow access to the child in an emergency.
2. Releasing a child should take only one step.
3. The release button should be clearly marked - a red button, such as used on carseats, would facilitate expedient release of the child in an emergency where seconds matter, such as when the child is choking.

The product, in the report: Cosco fold and flat highchair.
My husband and I purchased the Cosco fold flat highchair when our son was 6 months old. We never had any problems with it then, but now that he is 13 months and more active he has gotten his leg stuck in the front of highchair numerous times. There is a section in the front of highchair that has a gap between the metal and the fabric that is about 2 inches. My son is capable of sticking his foot in this gap and then getting his ankle caught in it. He has not hurt himself seriously from this, yet, just a real panic in myself and husband trying to force his foot back through without hurting him. After looking at the highchair, I dont understand why they have it designed this way. Please address this matter.

The product, in the report: COSCO Flat Fold High Chair being used to confine our grand daughter safely during feeding.
My seven month old granddaughter was properly seated and buckled into the COSCO Flat Fold High Chair. She managed to get her left foot wedged under the bar beneath the tray and up against the fabric on the left side of the seat. She was caught in this position for several minutes until I could remove the tray to see how to safely extricate her foot which was caught at the ankle. It took another minute or two to dislodge her from her predicament. Meanwhile she was crying and trying to get her foot loose. She sustained minor abrasions, redness and bruising to her ankle from struggling.

The product, in the report: Flat Fold High Chair. Weighs up to 50lbs. 3-position adjustable tray, Built-in cup holder, 3-point harness, Built-in footrest, Compact fold Color- Baige, Black, and red
I bought the Cosco Flat Fold HIgh Chair Product number HC146 from Wal-Mart located in Lancaster, Ca 5/7/2011. I installed the high chair 5/12/2011. During the installation, my husband and I noticed there was a space (gap, if you will) from the tray and the bar set to sit the child legs. We put our 9 month old in, we then noticed her leg was not in the leg area, it was located in the space we saw during the installation (not thinking that a baby would notice the area). once she couldnt get her foot out she began to cry. We removed her from the seat. We placed her back in 5/14/2011, thinking she would not remember the area, after being ther for 15 minutes, her foot was there again. I feel this item should be recalled because a child’s foot should not be stuck in anything that is “safe”. Had she tried taking her own foot out, there could have been more harm to her. Any child can occur brusing and their ankle being sprained to say the least. I went to their website to see if there was any safety notices, and non found. I feel this itme is not safe at all. Please call me if you need too, this item must be recalled for a baby’s sake. I have pictures if needed,. Thank you for your time.
