No one hurt Made Apr 6, 2026, sent to the company Apr 9, 2026, published by CPSC Apr 23, 2026
The product, in the report: Babyletto Modo 3 in 1 convertible crib with toddler rail neutral
Shortly after being put down for bed, our son began screaming in distress. When we went to check on him, we discovered that his leg had become trapped within the cribs wooden spindles. His knee and ankle were caught in a twisted and clearly painful position. Despite multiple careful attempts to reposition him and safely free his leg, we were unable to do so without causing him further discomfort and distress. Given the urgency of the situation and the visible pain and fear our son was experiencing, we had no choice but to cut one of the wooden spindles in order to safely release his leg.

Seen by a doctor or nurse Made May 23, 2025, sent to the company May 30, 2025, published by CPSC Jun 13, 2025
The product, in the report: White/Natural wooden baby crib used for sleeping. Product is full-size with vertical slats on all four sides. Paint started chipping after minimal contact from a 10-month-old baby.
What happened?
We received a crib (Marley Crib in White/Natural, Model W4901, Serial Number HS0241402407, manufactured in 07/2024) as a gift from my sister when our son was 4 months old. At that time, we didnt use the crib because we already had one more suitable for younger infants. When our son turned 10 months old, we finally assembled and began using the Marley crib.
On the second day of use, we noticed that our son had scraped off paint from the top rail of the crib with his mouth. Like many babies at this stage, he has a natural tendency to bite and chew on things, especially crib rails. What concerned us most was that he has only one tooth, which means it took very little pressure to cause the paint to chip off and end up in his mouth.
This immediately raised serious safety concerns. We stopped using the crib right away. We also contacted our pediatrician the same day and waited hours to get a response. The pediatrician told us that as long as the paint flakes were small, it shouldnt be dangerous, but recommended routine lead testing at 12 months of age to be sure. Until then, theres no way to be fully certain if ingestion caused any harm.
After researching online, we were alarmed to find multiple reviews dating as far back as 2019 describing the same problembabies scraping and ingesting paint from the same crib model or brand. This shows that the issue is not isolated and may indicate a wider safety defect that hasnt been properly addressed by the manufacturer.
Who was using the product?
Our 10-month-old baby boy.
How was the product being used?
The crib was assembled and used as intendedfor our baby to sleep in.
Were there any injuries that happened or may have happened while using the product?
Yes, our son ingested paint chips from the crib. While there were no visible immediate symptoms, ingestion of paintespecially if containing any toxinsposes a serious risk to health. We are awaiting future test results to ensure there was no harm caused.
How did any injuries occur?
The injury occurred when the baby bit on the rail of the crib and scraped off paint into his mouth. The paint easily came off due to poor adhesion or low durability, despite the product being nearly brand new.
