The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Sep 23, 2026, sent to the company Sep 28, 2026, published by CPSC Oct 20, 2026

The product, in the report: Little Nomad Play Mat Emile, size 8x8, color latte

In 2023, I purchased an 8x8 interlocking foam play mat from House of Noa for use in our primary play area. After approximately 1.5 years of normal residential use, the printed film edges of the foam pieces began to peel. Last week, while my eight-month-old infant was crawling on the mat, I noticed him chewing something and was able to fish a piece of the peeling film out of his mouth. Upon close observation, I discovered that an infant can easily grab a corner of the peeling material and pull it completely off, creating a severe choking hazard and ingestible foreign-object risk. Because this product can break down in a way that produces small, easily detachable pieces within reach of babies and toddlers, we immediately discarded the mat to prevent injury, and I believe this hazard warrants a formal safety review and product recall.

  2. First aid

Made Oct 13, 2022, sent to the company Oct 17, 2022, published by CPSC Oct 31, 2022

The product, in the report: House of Noa “Little Nomad” foam play mat in 12’x12’ size with the black and white pattern on it called Boho Dream - Neutral combination of black and ivory.

I am a young mother who purchased a foam play mat from The House of Noa. This company markets play mats specifically to babies, children, and toddlers as a safe surface to play on. My seven-month-old son was playing on the play mat and managed to peel off a section of the pattern the company prints on the top of the mat. He then put it into his mouth and started choking. I rushed to fish the piece of the pattern out of his mouth and was able to get it out using my finger as a hook. I had no idea that the pattern could come off and there is no warning on their website. After researching online I found that other parents dealt with the same issue and yet received no warning from the company.

  3. No one hurt

Made Jun 15, 2022, sent to the company Jun 24, 2022, published by CPSC Jul 11, 2022

The product, in the report: House of Noa play mats are 24.8” x 24.8” tiles with 0.47” thick foam. Each tile connects like a puzzle to create a play mat of various sizes and colors/designs. The design is not printed on the tiles themselves, rather, it is printed on a thin piece of plastic-like material that is then adhered to the foam. I purchased the Little Nomad play mat in Starlight, which is gray and white, size 4 x 8 (8 tiles total). The play mat is supposed to be placed in play rooms or anywhere children will play, as it is cushioned for “safety.”

I purchased House of Noa play mats marketed for children’s play rooms in May 2021. Approximately 2-3 months later the layer with the design started to peel off of the foam layer. The play mat was placed in the living room where my toddler mostly plays, so when it started peeling, my toddler put a piece that was peeling in his mouth. Luckily I saw this and took the piece out of his mouth, so no injury occurred. I subsequently contacted the company and they sent a replacement set and I discarded the damaged one. I am reporting this company and product because they have sent me three different sets since May 2021 and each set has peeled within 3 months and it is being marketed for use in children’s rooms and it is unsafe for children due to the peeling. On their website, House of Noa states that CPSC has tested and approved the play mats for safety, however, something was obviously missed since I am using the product as intended and the safety issue persisted with three different sets sent by the House of Noa. Please review this product for safety and test it in real conditions in play rooms or living rooms over a period of 3 months.
