How badly anyone was hurt

As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Aden + Anais Baby Bonding Play Mat

I purchased an Aden Anais Baby Bonding Play Mat for my newborn back in March, and began using it in June. The mirrored sun attachment had what looked like a smear or fingerprint on the glass, and it cracked today during my baby’s playtime. He is not even old enough to crawl and had barely touched it. This is extremely dangerous, and not what I would expect from a $90 play mat. It is as hard as glass, but with a little more flexibility. So far now it has cracked twice and has another smudge which is a third pending crack. The material makes clusters of tiny shards under the surface, which looks like fingerprints but then rupture. The play mat has only been used on carpet, for infant tummy time, and has never been exposed to trauma or rough play. I had left the room momentarily when it happened and am thankful it did not hurt him, as it is sharp enough to cut yourself on. I hope they do away with this piece, and it terrifies me to think what would happen if a baby put a shard in his or her mouth or eye.
