The product, in the report: Ikea Sniglar Crib, Beech Model 502.485.41
In July of 2020 (several days ago), I purchased an Ikea Sniglar crib at the Ikea store in East Palo Alto, CA. This is the item: PN 502.485.41 https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/sniglar-crib-beech-50248541/
On my return home, I discovered that the item was manufactured in 2004. This was written both on the box, as well as in some of the documentation inside the box. I have taken photographs of this documentation, as well as my receipt.
As a new, first-time parent, I was very happy to read about the crib safety standards authored by CPSC in 2011. I read several blogs mentioning that cribs manufactured prior to this date are unlikely to meet the new standards and that the only way to find out whether a pre-2011 crib is compliant is to reach out to manufacturer and/or retailer.
Thus, I reached out to Ikea. On at least 3 separate calls to customer service, I was unable to speak with somebody. One one call, I spoke to a customer service representative who told me the crib was compliant. When I inquired how she knew this, I was informed that “if it were not safe, we would not sell it.” She was not privy to any documentation to this effect and refused to put this fact in writing. After insisting on discussing with a manager, I was placed on hold and then disconnected.
I get that this is a tough time, but I am worried that Ikea is compromising safety (of babies no less) in order to deal with their supply chain woes.

First aid Made Jul 9, 2020, sent to the company Jul 30, 2020, published by CPSC Aug 13, 2020
The product, in the report: SNIGLAR Crib, beech 27 1/2x52 “ https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/sniglar-crib-beech-50248541/ Model SNIGLAR Crib, beech 27 1/2x52 “
We purchased an Ikea Sniglar crib in Beech approximately 4.5 years ago and have used it for ~ 2 years. A few days ago my 8 month old son was in the crib when the base that the mattress is supported by fell through to the floor on one side. Our baby rolled to that side and was pinned in the corner. We head the loud noise and quickly got him. I thought maybe the item wasn’t assembled well or the pins holding the base weren’t in all the way. I checked everything out and tightened it all. This morning it happened again and out son’s neck was yanked back almost 90 degrees and he was stuck in that position.
I contacted Ikea today because obviously this product isn’t safe for children or there was a manufacturing issue that is causing the base to be able to slip over the pins. The only thing they said was they recommend not passing any baby items down from one child to another, and that being that it was out of warranty I should throw it out and buy another one. They had nothing to say about the inherent safety issue that needs to be addressed. I’m sure that had we not heard the initial noise of it falling my son would have sustained much more serious injuries at a minimum.

No one hurt Made Feb 25, 2014, sent to the company Mar 6, 2014, published by CPSC Mar 21, 2014
The product, in the report: IKEA baby crib white
IKEA Sundvik Crib.
We bought a IKEA Sundvik baby crib for our baby boy.
2 months ago, I noticed that the bottom part of the crib is completly sagging and bowing down. At the beggining it was in the middle but quickly it was all of the frame, there is almost a huge gap under the bottom rail of the crib (the crib is in the lowest position).
The reason for this is a decidedly poor design, in that the entire board is only attached to the crib frame at the four corners. there is absolutely no support at the middle of the crib. My baby is 2 years old and I think this crib is really not safe so I removed it because I’m pretty sure it will break soon...
I contacted IKEA customers service today with pics for help.
I’m really disapointed on the IKEA brand. A friend of mine recommend me IKEA baby crib for my second chils. But this is really not the best experience.
