The product, in the report: Fold down crib
Hideaway compact folding crib model# unknown date of manufacture unknown, purchased 07/24/2013.
This crib has been purchased from retailer after new crib regulations & standards went into law.
Caller purchased this crib for use when her grandson is visiting.
The six and a half week old crib has been used by her grandson three times for a few hours each time.
Her grandson is three months old possibly 24 inches long and weighs approximately 15 lbs.
There is a piece at the bottom of the crib where the mattress support attaches via a screw to hold it secure.
The nut came out so caller threw it away, purchased longer bolts and connected them to this piece to hold it secure.
I advised caller that CPSC never advised that care-givers or parents repair cribs themselves and I then pointed out that children have perished when cribs are repaired by anyone other than their manufacturers.
She said that she did advise the manufacturer of this crib that she devised her own repair she has had no response whatsoever.
Compliant with ASTMF406 - Caller is also reporting that this crib was sold to her after June 28th, 2011 [REDACTED]. Definitely should not have been sold to her by this retailer. She has her receipt. Caller is planning to return this crib to the retailer where purchased but wanted to report this incident for the safety of other children.
There are no injuries to be reported
Caller contacted the manufacturer sometime around the end of August 2013 but has heard nothing from them.
