Hurt, no treatment Made Feb 19, 2016, sent to the company Feb 29, 2016, published by CPSC Mar 14, 2016
The product, in the report: Davinci kalani 4-in-1 convertible crib, espresso color. Model #5501
I put my then almost 5-month old baby in his Davinci Kalani 4-in -1 convertible crib for a nap. About 10 minutes later he started screaming so I went in to check on him and his leg had gotten stuck between the slats on the crib. He could not get himself out because his thigh was wedged in the gap. This happened several times over the next few months including when he could roll over and stand up in hopes he could free himself. This was not the case. One incident he had both of his legs stuck pointing out the front of the crib between the slats. I had to stop putting him in it. He had some red marks on his leg but nothing more serious. Had I not heard him though he could have easily broken his leg or cut off the circulation. I’m not blaming the crib company because I know they conform to spacing standards. I’m asking the standards be re-evaluated. I’ve read a lot of people have had problems with their infants getting stuck, not just in this model crib but several others. Or, since crib liners are not recommended, maybe a suggestion or article on the web site how to prevent this. I imagine many people now have cribs they will not use until toddler stage.

The product, in the report: DaVinci Emily 4 in 1 Convertable Crib with Toddler Rail, Ebony Product Dimensions 54.6 x 34.5 x 41.9 inches
I have the Emily 4-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail. My son has been using it for a little under a year. He is 18 months but didn’t start using this crib until he was about 7 months old. Last night at 2AM I heard a very loud bang come from his room followed by him screaming. I rushed in to find the front right corner of his mattress on the floor. Once I checked to make sure he wasn’t hurt I lifted the mattress to find that the metal bracket that connects the mattress spring frame to the crib had snapped at the point where it is riveted to the metal spring frame. The piece that broke off was extremely sharp as well.My son could have been SERIOUSLY injured! Thankfully he wasn’t! This should not have happen and I need answers. I am not sure who to contact and came across this site while searching for answers this afternoon.

The product, in the report: DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 Convertible Wood Baby Crib w/ Toddler Rail in Cherry
I purchased a crib before my daughter was born on January 21, 2012 from Cymax.com it is a DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 Convertible Wood Baby Crib w/ Toddler Rail. Since then she was born on [REDACTED] her legs and arms have been able to go through the slots of the crib. This has occurred several times when she was younger i just moved her arms and legs but now that she is older her knees get caught and it very hard to get them out. Today, in fact I put her down for a nap and it happened three times. If I wasn’t a diligent mother she could have been severely injured. I am concerned for other children who may have this crib as well.

The product, in the report: Davinci Emily 4-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail
I purchased a new Emily Davinci crib less than two years ago, and noticed that the spring frame is bowed in the middle of both sides, leading to a mattress that is sagging and not laying flat. In fact there is a gap where an arm, leg or head could get stuck between the mattress and the lower frame of the crib.

DaVinci Kalani 4-in-1 Crib I am a pediatrician and my 15 month old toddler had her legs trapped in between the rails up to the level of the thigh when she was asleep. She was unable to dislodge herself and we had to go in to the room and dislodge her. There is a risk for femur fracture if she had used enough force to try to remove her leg.

I have 2 DaVinci Emily Cribs in Espresso. The first has been used with our first born who’s one month shy of 2. The incident happened on 4/21/2013, his birthday is [REDACTED]. I bought the 2nd in preparation for the arrival of number 2. We thought it was a good crib until after nap on Sunday, 4/21. He tried climbing out of his crib for the first time. Got his leg up, under the bar and between the rest of the rail. Somehow (I have no idea how) got his other leg up, pulled himsef up and then his thighs were literally stuck in the space between the top round rail and the rest of the crib rail. I heard him let out a panic cry and heard him say, “I stuck, I stuck!” I went in to find him in this predicament.
Please see picture attathed to email with subject line: [REDACTED] I did contact the DaVinci company just before I contacted you so nothing from them yet.
I also called this report in to you so you’ll receive it 2x.

The product, in the report: Da Vinci Emily crib purchased in 2006
My daughter has a Da Vinci Emily crib purchased new in 2006. She is 16 months old and can stand in her crib, so the mattress is at the lowest setting. When she stands up and leans against the rail, her knee keeps getting caught between the slats of the crib. It swells and then takes several minutes to free her. This has happened 6 times now. We can no longer use this crib since it is not a safe place to put her.

This email was sent to Million dollar baby on 7/9/12 and I still do not have a response from them. Hello, I purchased 2 Emily 4-1 cribs and experianced a problem with both when they were converted into a toddler bed. The cribs were purchased a year apart form each other 2009 and 2010. On the crib prurchased in 2009 the screws stripped out of the place where the guard bar met with the side of the crib rendering it useless and unsafe for my child to sleep in. On the 2010 bed the guard bar snapped at the same junction (the crib also fell apart due to the screws constantly loosing). You can imagine my surprise when I found this after putting my daughter down for a nap. Also on both cribs the screws would not stay in place and would always come loose to which I was contently tightening them.
I am writing you to let you know of the safety hazards that I have witnessed and experienced with this model. I still have one crib waiting to be thrown out but the other is long gone. Is there anything that can be done to improve my image of your product. Currently I do not see why I have paid over $500 combine on these cribs that did not last more than 2 years each.

A crib set (Davinci - Rivington 4-in-1 Crib, Oak and Babymod-Twilite 6” foam crib and Toddler Mattress) was purchased from Walmart.com on 10/26/11. When assembled per instructions provided there is a 3 inch gap between the side rail and mattress when measured. This is extremely unsafe. I have contacted the manufacturer(Davinci) and resaler(Walmart.com). The manufacturer, Davinci told me it was not their responsibility and they were taking no action to provide me with a safe product or alerting other consumers. I have the reciept, e-mail correspondence and the product for your review. I am willing to send you pictures as well. The reason I am writing to you is I want a safe product to put my child in and I want to make sure no other consumer has this same issue. Please feel free to contact me any time.

Hurt, no treatment Made Aug 8, 2011, published by CPSC Aug 29, 2011
The product, in the report: DaVinci Emily 4 in 1 Crib Color: Espresso Height: 42.0 “; Width: 34.5 “; Depth: 55.0 “ Purchased at Target summer of 2010
We have an Emily Convertable Crib made by DaVinci, that was bought as a gift for us just a little over a year ago. In the 10 months that my son has been sleeping in this crib he has gotten his leg stuck between the slats twice. The first time he got his leg between the slats and got it all the way up over his knee and could not get it back out on his own. I heard him crying on the baby monitor, went to check on him and found him franticlly trying to free his leg. I immediatly tried to help him and even had a hard time myself trying to get his leg unstuck. Today he started crying again shortly after being put down for his nap and I went to find him once again with his leg stuck between the slats. I’ve also read that other people have had issue with the large gap between the top rail of the crib and the round rail just above it. They have said in other reviews I’ve read that their children have gotten their legs stuck in that gap trying to climb the crib (as most kids do). I worry about my son, who’s a climber, trying this one day and breaking his leg or worse by getting stuck. I’m not sure why this crib hasn’t been recalled yet! I’m not going to use mine anymore and will be putting little one in a pack and play. That’s how concerning this is!!!

The product, in the report: Da Vinci Kalani 4-in-1 crib. Oak colored. Fixed side.
I bought a Da Vinci Kalani crib and started using it in the fall of last year. 8-9 months later I came in the room to find all the screws loose and some sticking out as far as 1inch. The front and back rails were ready to be swinging free. With all the sides loose and the rails, it raised a real concern that my child could have fallen and gotten stuck or just have fallen out of the crib. She is very small and could have easily gotten caught between the rails with them being as loose as they were. All the screws were tight as can be when built and there should have been no reason I had to go back and tighten EVERY SINGLE SCREW. I have not been able to find a place to contact the manufacturer directly so I am turning here as I may now have to buy a new crib and these cribs are supposed to be top of the line! Please help resolve this issue and look into this. I am sure I am not the only one who has run into this.

First aid Made Jul 6, 2011, published by CPSC Jul 27, 2011
The product, in the report: DaVinci, “Jamie” 4 in 1 stationary convertible crib, model number: M7301W, color espresso
I purchased a DaVinci crib, style name “Jamie”, model number M7301W, at the beginning of 2010 for my son. He is now 14 months old. It was up to date with all of the recalls that I had done research on. On the early morning of July 1, 2011 my son woke me up screaming in pain. When I went to check on him he was laying on his stomach with his leg stuck between the vertical crib slats. His leg was stuck on the upper to mid part of his thigh on his left leg. It took me 5-10 minutes to slowly work his leg out without hurting him anymore than the crib had. I worked his leg out successfully. When I picked him up his leg was colder than the rest of his body and extremely sore to the touch. He has marks on the inner and outer part of his thigh, as well as the top of his thigh because he was sleeping on his stomach. After 24 hours the bruises got worse and were still very sore to the touch. I sent the company an e-mail right after that incident. They said they have 72 business hours to contact me. I have not yet heard from then. Then, today, July 5, 2011 my son woke up screaming again. When I went to check on him the same thing happened again. His left leg was stuck in the vertical slats on his crib. This time he was wearing long pants, where as on July 1st he was wearing shorts, and it wasn’t as difficult to get his leg out. He has red marks on his legs from the 2nd incident. After 24hrs from July 1st I took pictures of his legs to have for proof. I regret not taking pictures of his leg actually stuck. My mind was 100% focused on getting his leg out and making sure he was okay. I do not feel safe with my son sleeping in his crib at all.
