  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 28, 2011, published by CPSC Aug 12, 2011

The product, in the report: full size wooden crib

The consumer said that her 15 month old, 21 lbs., (ht. unknown) gets stuck in between the slats on the headboard or footboard of the crib. The son is at the age where he stands up and attempts to get out of the crib. Recently, the consumer found her son’s left thigh wedged in between the side slats of the crib. The consumer was able to free her son, but it was extremely difficult.

The consumer estimates that her son’s leg gets stuck in between the slats about 25% of the time. The consumer has discontinued use of the crib. She noted that during one incident, her son got his leg stuck so far between the slats that a part of his butt was in between the slats. The consumer pointed out that the slats on her crib are flexible enough to bend and she believes that this allows him to become wedged in further.

(6/28/11) The consumer was watching television today and she found that her crib was included in recall CAP# 10-134, but the mfr. is out of business. The consumer noted that the retailer she purchased the crib from is also out of business.

The rails on the headboard and footboard are believed to be too flexible.

The product, in the report: Generation 2 worldwide CHILDesigns Crib, Cherry Wood Finish Crib with Drawer underneath. “Sleigh Crib” LOGO “CHILDesign ingraved in Gold lettering on the teething bar of one of the sides. model number started 64-3.. Full size crib. Purchased at WALMART

My 2 year old son (whos bedroom is upstairs from us) started screaming after his nap (which is very unusual behavior) I ran into his nursery as he was trying to crawl over the side of the crib the side callapsed down pinin his leg and rear end between the matteress and the crib side, I tryed forcing it back up. But as it was completely uneven between left and ride triggers it wouldnt give in at all. My husband came runing and with full force Hit the side-bar of the crib upward untill the trigger plastic peace crashed appart and we removed the child. This was a very scarry incident aspecially for our 2 year old son [REDACTED]. He cried nonstop, pointing to crib saying Ouch..and hurts and no sleeping mommy. My husband realized he just flat out broke the plastic part when he yanked it upward and off [REDACTED]. . The crib side was then lowered to its non-functionable position. ANd without hessitation we went to reordered the destroyed peace of assembly part. Pulling the waranty paperwork and sitting on the phone frustrated for phone numbers being DISCONECTED, we quickly logged on to the website provided. AND STUMBLED UPON CPSC’s Warning of Recalls. This was especially chilling to us, we raised our now 5 year old daughter and now our 2 year old son in this crib and THANK GOD we had no Deaths! Or serious Injuries! Just a scarred little guy who has a fear of his crib now. Our heart goes out to the parents who lost their babies in their crib. Out of all places, that would be a safe haven for a child. Now i am dealing with my Local Walmart giving me a hard time because our MODEL numbers were Rubbed off and faded with cleaning the milk-bottle-messes. Luckly i could make out the first 3 digits which fall in the category. Sadly this is taking longer and alot more frustrating with our local store. I am advised that a Complience Officer is working with our case with the local retailer.

The product, in the report: 2002 ChildESIGNS Drop Side Crib. Converts to a toddler bed and also has a drawer under the crib for storage. Cherry colored wood.

We were given a ChildESIGNS Drop Side Crib in April of 2002 as a baby shower gift. We used it until our son out grew it in 2004 and converted into a toddler bed and once he out grew that we stored it away. Our youngest was born in October of 2009 and we are currently using it for him and just today the plastic part you lift to drop down the side cracked and broke. We didnt hear about this recall until we got on and Googled replacement parts for this crib and are now looking into buying another crib because of the potential hazard. Better safe than sorry.

    Thank you. [REDACTED]
