The product, in the report: Babyletto Modo 3-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail - White/Espresso, Dimensions: 34.63 “ H x 53.38 “ W x 30.0 “ D
My son woke up screaming (instead of crying) from his nap. When I entered his room I found him face down on the mattress with both legs stuck in the crib slats. His left leg was stuck up above his knee, almost to his thigh. It was very difficult to free him because every slight move I made caused him to scream in pain. I was able to remove his right leg quickly but his left leg was stuck so tightly that I thought I would have to cut the wood slats. It took over a minute to free him - I had to lift his whole body up with one arm and work his pants up to allow for some slight give. He was distraught and now has several bruises on his left leg (which I documented).
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. The first incident occurred roughly 6 months ago. Again, one leg was trapped and it led to extensive bruising. I did not report because I figured it was an isolated incident.
Attn: Babyletto/MDB Rep - do not reply with a canned “we follow industry standards” response. We can read your previous responses! I am trying to alert other consumers and the industry to consider different standards in the future! I hate the thought of converting to a toddler bed because honestly he is not ready for that. He is <35”, and has never attempted to climb his crib! He just rolls around a lot in his sleep!

The product, in the report: Babyletto Mercer 3-in-1 Convertible Crib
I contacted Babyletto, manufacturer of a Mercer 3-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail, via email today because the toddler rail that I received with my Mercer 3-in-1 Convertible Crib with Toddler Rail does not fit the crib frame. I’m having the same problem that these reviewers cite here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R9WP7KR86DFFB/ ref=cm_cr_dp_cmt?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B000Z3DWHK&nodeID=165796011&sto re=baby-products#wasThisHelpful. As background, the crib was purchased for me as a gift from Gilt.com in February 2012. I asked Babyletto for a replacement rail that properly fits the bed, without a dangerous gap, as soon as possible.
After much emailing back and forth with Babyletto, the final message that I received from Babyletto’s customer-service representative was that the gap between the bottom of the toddler rail and the top of the trundle drawer at the bottom of the crib is part of the crib’s design. See the final email I received, below, from Babyletto.
I’m reporting this crib to CPSC because I believe that the toddler-rail design is flawed and dangerous. Young children’s hands and feet can easily be caught and harmed in the gap. You can view advertising images of the crib converted to a toddler bed with the rail on http://www.amazon.com/babyletto-Mercer-Convertible-Crib-Toddler/dp/B000Z3DWHK/ref=sr_1_1?s=baby-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1377827083&sr=1-1&keywords=mercer+babyletto and http://www.diapers.com/p/babyletto-mercer-3-in-1-convertible-crib-espresso-white-8468.
Had I been aware of this design flaw, I would never have chosen this crib. The design flaw renders the toddler-bed function useless.

Hi [REDACTED]-
Is the issue the toddler rail not fitting in the holes?
Or there being a gap once it’s screwed in?
The toddler rail should fit in the two uppermost holes. I just went and tried to install one in the warehouse.
However, there will still be a gap on the toddler rail. That is how this crib was designed. I’ve attached a photo for visual reference.
Sincerely,

The product, in the report: Babyletto Modo 3 in 1 crib
My child got her knee stuck in between the rails of the crib while standing inside the crib. She was screaming and her knee was very red and her foot was turning blue. It took my husband a few minutes to get her knee out.

No one hurt Made May 11, 2011, published by CPSC Jun 3, 2011
The product, in the report: Babyletto Newhaven 4 in 1 Crib with Toddler Rail, Dark Chocolate. This is a canopy crib sold on Amazon.com and Babies R Us and a few other places.
I am writing this report about the Babyletto Newhaven 4 in 1 Crib with Toddler Rail. My daughter has been repeatedly getting her legs and arms stuck in teh slats of this crib every day and it has me very concerned. Since crib bumpers are not recommended I do not know what else to do, there are no solutions for this problem and I’m concerned my child will become injured. Her limbs were VERY stuck several times and I had to force the wood of the slats apart at one point to get her leg out. Crib manufacturers need to create something to prevent this issue, since it’s such a common problem either by providing cribs that are completely mesh and breathable or by adding other safety features. Anyway, this crib does not feel safe. In addition to that the springs that the mattress rest on are very loud, creaking constantly and feel a tad shaky.
