The product, in the report: Crib Bumper
When I heard my 7 month old daughter choking over her baby monitor, I rushed into her room to find about 3 inches of pink fabric hanging from her mouth. Another 6 inches were down her throat, obstructing her airway. I am a former Paramedic, so believe me when I say that her airway was obstructed, and this would surely resulted in the death of my daughter had I not reached her in time.
The fabric was a tie strap from her crib bumper; one of the ties that holds the bumper in place on the crib. Upon inspection, I noticed that the tie strap was not torn, nor was the knot untied. The actual stitching that holds the strap to the bumper had come undone. Upon even further inspection, I noticed that the stitching was coming undone on several other tie straps on this bumper, leading me to believe that there is an inherent issue with the combination of the fabric that makes up the bumper and straps, and the thread used to secure them together.
The manufacturer has been contacted by my wife and myself, and they seem completely oblivious as to how dangerous this could be, and are not willing to help. I do have photographs that I will be more than happy to provide.
The product is made by a company called Sleeping Partners, located in Bronx, NY. Their website is sleepingparters.com This product was under their line called “Tadpoles,” and is the “Dimpled Velour” model, which came as part of a complete bedding set.
