We bought this bed for my 1 year old in 2013. When we potty trained him he had a few accidents and we took the outer cover off to wash. (On the tag it says the outer cover is machine washable) At the time I noticed some thread like material coming off but didn’t think too much of it. April 29, 2017 my husband decided to remove the cover again and wash it. The entire inner cover had disintegrated! Leaving shards as big as 2 inches in the foam and all over the outer cover. Even worse my husband thinking they were feathers from the down comforter washed the fiberglass shard covered outer covering with blankets and everything got covered in fiberglass shards. Even after washing multiple loads I see the thin shards on anything we wash. I have now done some research and will be running empty loads to hopefully clean out the washer. I am horrified that my 5 year old has been sleeping on this for almost 4 years! It actually says on the tag that the inner cover is made of 50% fiberglass. I understand mattress manufacturers use fiberglass and silica as a fire retardant, but I can’t believe it disintegrated in 4 years and created such a huge mess for us. After multiple loads of drying old rags, there is still shiny shards on the towels and in the lint catcher. There are small shards all over the bedroom and they irritate our skin. This is a HUGE product flaw. We have contacted the company but I want to make sure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
