The product, in the report: Description from the Secure Beginnings website: “The Heaven Sent Breathable Crib Mattress is specifically designed to be the safest crib mattress available on the market today for your baby. It replaces foam and cotton filled mattresses with a comfortable breathable fabric surface suspended over a wood frame with openings in the sides allowing constant air circulation for your baby.”
This is one of the most dangerous products/claims I have seen in years. Its tag lines are: “Designed for safe tummie [sic] sleeping” and “Sleep should be safe in any position.” The greatest risk factor for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome is stomach sleeping. According to the FDA no product has been proven to reduce the risk or prevent SIDS. This mattress encourages parents to put infants on their stomachs to sleep because this mattress is “breathable” and is therefore safe.
