The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Cozy Cover, 2 zipper model, with head hole cover, no vents or screening

RISK OF INFANT DEOXYGENATION AND SUFFOCATION:

I observed an infant in a mobile carrier such as a car seat completely covered by a pink Cozy Cover for over an hour without any access to air external - outside of the tightly covered seat. The specific cover is an accessory with elastic around the entire rectangular edge which tightly captures the seat. It has two V configured zippers for baby placement and removal from the seat. And it has a head-hole that is fully covered by a flap. This model Cozy Cover completely covers the infant and its face when zipped and the flap is down - which is the natural resting position. The cover is designed to fully cover the infant including its face. In this case, I thought the infant was removed and the seat was empty and sealed. However, ordering and eating a full meal (well over 1hr) the parents/caretakers peeked into the head-hole and said their infant was sleeping “the entire time!”.

Complete entrapment coverage risks the child re-breathing the same air to the point of deoxygenation. In addition, the Cozy Cover rests concave down due to gravity pulling on the material - so it droops inward towards the nose and mouth. Larger infants and those under a drooping or improperly installed Cozy Cover are at high risk of suffocation due to occlusion of the nose and mouth by the Cozy Cover material. There are more than one Cozy Cover model. This model does not have ventilation material and covers the child’s face entirely when closed.
