The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Model 8311, manufactured in 2007

I own an Arm’s Reach Cosleeper (model 8311) and wanted to report the following incident:

I placed my son (5.5months) in the cosleeper on his back last night and, at about 1am, heard him crying. We are sleep training him, so we let him cry himself back to sleep. When I went to get him this morning around 5:30am, he was no longer on the mattress. I lifted up the mattress and found him face down on the floor of the cosleeper.

As I tried to figure out what happened, I noticed that there is ample room on the sides of the cosleeper for an infant to slip down (the mesh walls are really compliant), particularly if the baby is heavier (my son is about 16lbs).

In addition to the fall risk, I am also concerned that the vinyl fabric on the bottom of the cosleeper may not be breathable and could pose a suffocation risk (my son is old enough to lift his head).

My son is totally fine, but this incident really scared me and I want to make sure that these products are safe. Pretty much everyone I know uses a cosleeper of some sort (often from this company) and I was totally unaware that this product had any safety risks until I visited your page.

FYI, I have also sent a report to the company.
