  1. No one hurt

Made Aug 12, 2025, sent to the company Aug 15, 2025, published by CPSC Aug 29, 2025

The product, in the report: Wooden portable crib (hotel rental), natural/honey finish. Slatted sides with curved head/foot boards; four swivel casters at the legs (two appear to lock). The front side consists of two vertical-slat panels joined near the top by a small hinge, with a separate lower front rail (the rail that later separated). There is a visible metal L-bracket repair plate at the top left corner of the head/foot board. Thin foam crib mattress with a fitted sheet was provided. Brand/model unknownno labels or markings visible. Standard crib size or hotel portable/compact size (exact dimensions not marked). Intended for infant/toddler sleep.

On 08/08/25, I rented a wooden full-size crib on casters from a baby-gear rental company for use in a hotel room named, https://babysaway.com/. I assembled the crib as delivered and placed my 2-year-old child in it to sleep. In the middle of the night, early morning on 08/09/25 we awoke to screaming and found the child partially outside the crib: her torso and legs were through an opening on the right side while her head/neck were trapped between two wooden slats and a lower rail.

The lower front rail had separated from the right post, creating a large gap/entrapment opening. The crib also had a metal L-bracket at the top left corner that appears to be a prior repair. We removed the child and observed red pressure marks on the neck and significant distress. This presented a serious strangulation/entrapment hazard.

The rental company replaced the crib the next day. I have photos of the failed crib and the neck marks and can provide them. Brand/model were not visible on the unit.
