The product, in the report: This is a projector that plays music and attaches to the side of the crib. There is a plastic strap and also a string that can be tied around the crib rungs. Both were attached before my baby pulled the plastic strap. When she detached the strap, the string was still tied, but the projector slid down the rung and hit her head.

My 6 month old daughter pulled the Fisher Price 3-in-1 Projector Soother off of the side of her crib, and it fell on her head! She had a red spot on her eyebrow and cried.

The product, in the report: Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2455073

Back in 2007 we bought 2 of the Fisher-Price Rainforest Waterfall Peek-a-Boo Soother. In 2008 we packed the toys up in a cardboard box and put it in the closet until we decided to have more children. Recently we unpacked the box because we are a few weeks away from having a second baby. When I unpacked the crib toys and took off the battery cover to replace the batteries I noticed a bunch of brown goopy stuff leaking out of the toy. The bottom part of the toy (where the fish/water is) was half empty in 1 of the units and almost all the way empty in the other unit. It seems that the water substance leaked out rusted the batteries and was leaking out of the toy. I contacted Fisher Price/Mattel about my issue and they stated that the water “evaporated” from the toy. If the water just evaportated then why was there brown goey stuff leaking out of the back of the toy? To me this is a huge saftey concern, if a child was to ingest this brown rusty fluid it could get really sick. I explained this to fisher price and they seemed to not be too concerned and just wanted to offer me a $10 voucher towards a new toy. The toys are both in excellent condition with no cracks which may have caused them to leak, I believe this is a defect in the toy. I have copy and pasted my online conversation with [REDACTED]which took place on 08/10/11 @ 0900.

Chat Transcript Please wait while we find an agent to assist you... You have been connected to [REDACTED]. [REDACTED]: Hi [REDACTED], thank you for contacting Fisher Price Baby Gear. My name is [REDACTED]. How can I help you today? [REDACTED]: Back in 2007 we bought the rainforest crib player toy....well we packed it up and recently unpacked it because we are a few weeks away from having baby #2 and all the water on the bottom half where the fish is leaked out...rusted the back battery piece and is just a mess....is this supposed to happen? [REDACTED]: I am sorry that has happened [REDACTED]. I can assist you with this. [REDACTED]: we actually have 2 of them....1 is about half empty and the other is all the way empty [REDACTED]: [REDACTED], over time the water will evaporate. [REDACTED]: can we add more water somehow? [REDACTED]: No, there is no way to “refill” it. I am sorry. [REDACTED]: so will the rest of the water keep leaking out all over my new baby? because when i opened the battery area it was damp and rusted out the batteries i had in there. It was brown and nasty. I cleaned it up and it still seems to work [REDACTED]: Let me look into “leaking”. One moment please. [REDACTED]: Thank you for waiting, I am still looking up more information and will be back momentarily. [REDACTED]: ok thanks. I just don’t want to put it in my babies crib if its not safe or could harm her.Rusty fluid coming out of it can’t be good for a baby if they touch it. [REDACTED]: [REDACTED], it is possible for liquid to leak, maybe there is a tiny crack somewhere. I would not recommend putting this in a baby’s crib. [REDACTED]: isn’t that weird that it happend to both of them? We had 1 in our crib and 1 at the babysitters house and they both are doing the same thing? [REDACTED]: Both of these soothers are from 2007 and the water will evaporate over time. [REDACTED]: I wish I would have taken a picture before I cleaned one of them up last night. It was light brown goey stuff all inside where the batteries lay. It was all rusted and gross. If the water would have just “evaporated” why would my unit be all rusty right behind where the fish/water is? I havent looked at the 2nd one yet. [REDACTED]: I do know how they were packed and stored. Dampness could also be an issue. [REDACTED]: they were packed in a box and put in the closet of our spare bedroom. Our house is only 3 years old and we didn’t have any other problems with any of our other baby stuff which was also placed in boxes in the same area. Just kinda strange... [REDACTED]: If the water leaked out of one and not evaporated it could have appeared in the battery compartment. [REDACTED]: ok, so what do I do? Now I am just stuck with worthless pieces of plastic that I can’t use for my new baby? [REDACTED]: I am sorry, [REDACTED]. Both of these soothers are from 2007. They are not under warranty at this time. [REDACTED]: interesting.... i’m sure cpsc would be interested to hear that. I guess that will be my next step. I am not sure how a company can sell BABY items that leak water causing bateries to rust and leak down the unit [REDACTED]: Again, I do apologize. I would like to offer a $10.00 voucher that can be used towards the purchase of any Fisher Price or Mattel product. [REDACTED]: a brand new one will cost me $48 on the babies r us website. Interesting....fisher price makes multi million dollars in profit every year from all these baby products parents buy and all they can offer is 10$. This product seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen..especially when a child ingests battery acid or rusted water and noone seems to want to help me. [REDACTED]: [REDACTED], I am sorry, because of the age of both of these products, I can offer the $10.00 voucher at this time. [REDACTED]: Can I send this voucher to the address provided in [REDACTED]? [REDACTED]: maybe fisher price should put on the box that the product will only last thru one child....subsequent children will need to be bought brand new ones due to the saftey hazard of leaking water. Seems kind of silly to me. [REDACTED]: Do what you want. I will be contacting cpsc this afternoon to see if they might be interested in hearing my story...maybe the item will be recalled. [REDACTED]: I believe this issue would be better handled over the phone. Please contact us at 1-888-253-4303. Please reference your email address when you call. [REDACTED]: Thank you for contacting Fisher Price Baby Gear. Have a nice day! [REDACTED]: are they going to tell me the same thing when I call? that its out of warranty and you dont care about the saftey of children [REDACTED]: A representative will take your information when you call. [REDACTED]: Thank you for contacting Fisher Price Baby Gear. Thank you for contacting Mattel. The session has ended. Your session has ended. You may now close this window.
