The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. Hurt, no treatment

Made Jul 9, 2011, published by CPSC Aug 1, 2011

The product, in the report: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/wagi-baby-pacifiers/ID=prod6022309-product

The baby was lying on her stomach on our bed. She is 6.5 months old. Her back was to us, and we were all watching TV. Suddenly she began screaming. I snatched her up and turned her around and to my horror the pacifier was lodged sideways in her mouth...Her mouth was forced open in a lock-jaw position and she was scared and in a lot of pain. (Nipple toward one side of mouth, rear toward other side of mouth, ‘laying down’ so that the long part is horizontal with her gums and the short side was the part that was holding her mouth open.’

Instinctively I pulled it out, but I had to TWIST it and pull HARD to get it out. She cried for 20 minutes, but her gums didn’t seem to bleed.

I believe that if a baby was in their crib alone and this happened at a different angle, like with the rear of it inside the mouth as it was lodged in the gums sideways, that the baby could suffocate or die a crib death due to their airway mouth exit being blocked. It’s hard to get enough air to scream through your nose.

I hope they recall this product immediately.
