The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Smart Steps Jerry Giraffe Rattle & Teether from Amazon

Product name: Smart Steps Jerry Giraffe Rattle & Teether Where purchased: Amazon My 6-month-old baby was playing with this Smart Steps giraffe rattle/teether when the sharp molding seam on the giraffes ear caused a cut on his chin. The seam is not smooth and feels sharp enough to scratch skin. Since this toy is marketed as a teether and intended to go into a babys mouth, it should not have any sharp or unfinished edges.

The injury was minor and did not require medical treatment, but the cut was visible and caused bleeding. I am concerned that other infants could experience similar or worse injuries, especially on their lips, gums, or inside the mouth.

I believe this may be a manufacturing or quality control issue. I am reporting this because products meant for infantsespecially teethersshould not have sharp edges, and this may pose a hazard to other children.
