I had to pry it out of her mouth so Im sure it hurt her but thank God she is alive. That led me to [REDACTED] and finding out that pacifiers arent as safe as theyre advertised to be.

Hello, My son uses MAM pacifiers and last night we had an extremely upsetting incident. He woke up crying because the pacifier had broken in two. Luckily, he knew to take the broken nipple out of his mouth and alert us to the fact that it had broken. Clearly this is a huge choking hazard! A MAM pacifier broke once before. It was my son’s first time using it and the nipple broke right off. I was upset but thought it must be a fluke. However, this second incident suggests a very concerning pattern. I thought I should report this issue as it presents a serious danger to children.

The product, in the report: MAM Mini Air Pacifier 0-6 months (2 count, blue).

My 4 month old baby was using his MAM Mini air pacifier (for ages 0-6 months) like usual when he suddenly started screaming in pain. I quickly noticed the pacifier was lodged sideways in his mouth, locking his jaw in place. We have used MAM pacifiers since he was born and haven’t had an issue until now. What has changed is that he has started grabbing the pacifier in the days leading up to this incident, as he is now developing better hand-eye coordination. While trying to grab his pacifier he managed to move it sideways allowing half of the exterior hard plastic of the pacifier to fit into his mouth and it became lodged sideways between his gums, locking his jaw in the open position. It was even hard for me to remove it from his gums and get it out of his mouth. It took a while to calm him down afterwards. This happened 2 times within a 24 hour period. They are now in the garbage. It was horrifying! I just looked this up online and saw other parents have shared similar stories and I’m wondering why this is still on the market!

The product, in the report: The product is a MAM brand pacifier, this exact model: [REDACTED] It is marketed for babies 6+ mos of age and up; literally the product name is “MAM Original Matte Pacifier (2 Pack, 1 Sterilizing Pacifier Case), Pacifiers 6 Plus Months, Baby Girl Pacifier, Best Pacifiers for Breastfed Babies, Sterilizing Storage Case”

My 8 month old was in her basinet, with the MAM 6+ mos paci in her mouth while she was about to nap. I heard a blood curdling screetch and scream that was faint, and came in to find the pacifier wedged sideways between her teeth. She is 8 months old, the pacifier is marketed for 6+ mos. I threw out the newborn to 6 mos ones, for this exact reason. It should not be marketed as safe, she almost choked. I had to wedge her mouth open to get it out, and she was injured from the paci (small lacerations to her mouth).

My 10 month old son was using his pacifier in no unusual manner, I pulled it out to feed him a bottle and noticed the nipple was halfway detached from the plastic pacifier. This poses an enormous choking risk, especially given the fact that there are so many other reports of pacifiers falling apart like this. Without a die, an baby or toddler will eventually choke to death due to a pacifier nipple coming apart from the plastic. Thank goodness it was not my son today.

The manufacturer was not contacted as yet.

I purchased the mam dummy from amazon two weeks ago. Today I gave it to my child and the plastic nipple part split in two. It was fine when I gave it to my child. It was sterilised in a mam microwave steriliser. Luckily it must have felt different and my baby spat it out. I was horrified. If he had fallen asleep with it in he would of choked to death. Im just so pleased it happened while I was holding him. I have a photo.

My son has been used MAM pacifiers since the day he was born. We have never had any issues. About a week ago he got his paci out of his crib...crawled up on the couch beside me and handed me the tip of the paci. He had chewed it off. I contacted MAM and they apologized and have been great to deal with. They sent him a teether and an envelope requesting me to send it back to them so they can test it in the lab (I have already sent it back). We have since weened our son from the pacifier because of the awful safety risk. I just wanted to report this because in my opinion even if a child chews on the pacifier...they should not be able to chew through it.

My 4 month old has been using the mam 0-6 pacifiers exclusively. Today he almost choked on one. Somehow he was able to turn the entire pacifier sideways and fit the whole thing in his mouth. He was traumatized as was I fishing it out as swiftly as possible. Thank goodness I was close by I do not know what could have happened if I wasn’t. This is very dangerous and I will not be using these any longer and will be educating my many friends who use these too. It is a shame as he loves only these pacifiers but his safety comes first. I will now be researching larger pacifiers that cannot be manipulated in this way. I feel an evaluation of this product by mam is necessary. The specific model he was using is the mam air 0-6.

The product in question is a MAM brand pacifier clip. The clip is made of clear, hard, brittle plastic. I tried to attach the clip to my daughter’s shirt and a piece of the fastener broke off. Had I not noticed it my daughter could have picked it up and swallowed it. The broken shard is somewhat small, jagged, and could cause considerable damage if ingested. I have contacted MAM about this and told them I would also contact CPSC as well.

I believe that the MAM pacifier clips are unsafe and should be recalled immediately.

He was fine after I yanked it out but I no longer trust him alone with his pacifier :( always loved his brand for both my kids. Hopefully they revamp it ASAP. I called customer service as suggested, and no answer, only voice mail. I’m waiting for a response.

When I picked her up she let go of her pacifier and I saw that it was lodged sideways deeply in her mouth. I could not remove it from her mouth, it was stuck. I called my husband and he eventually was able to remove it from her mouth, but it scraped up the roof of her mouth. She was bleeding from the roof of her mouth. The pacifier was a Mam air pacifier for 0-6 mo. She had just turned 5 months that day so I didn’t think that I needed to buy her a bigger size.

I looked down, and saw that he had managed to wedge the paci into his mouth sideways, with the lip of the knob stuck behind his lower gum, and the edge of the side of the paci wedged behind his upper gum.

I reached down to remove it, but I couldn’t get it out. It was wedged really well. I finally had to yank it out, causing the gums and the roof of his mouth to be scraped.

I let my one month old use MAM pacifier while on his bassinet. After he sucks to it, he would sleep and then release the pacifier. It will almost always slip to his either side. Because of MAM’s design flaw of a butterfly shape and it’s sharp, hard edges touches the sides of my son’s ears. When he cried, he would move his head left and right many times before we could pick him up. What MAM did was cut the back of my son’s back ear pulling it away from his head. It was very sad to see that happened and both of his ears got severed, one worst than the other. I discontinued using but the damage has been done. Even-though they have healed, there is still scar and ear apart a little from the head. Horrible product!

The water filled cooling part broke and upon further inspection I noticed that there was black mold growing in between the cooling part and the round plastic design piece. Luckily the product broke so that I could inspect it more in-depth; with the water out of the water filled portion it became more pliable and I was able to separate the pieces. I am very concerned that this could have made my child sick, as the product states it is a teether and therefore ALWAYS in the mouth, directly in contact with the black mold that was growing. I can provide pictures with proof of purchase, if necessary.

My 5 month old got the MAM 2+ months pacifier lodged sideways in her mouth. I heard her screaming on the monitor and she was in her crib, the plastic pacifier shield in her mouth, with mouth stuck open in a lock jaw position. It took a great deal of effort to get the pacifier out... The butterfly shape seems to have made it especially susceptible to getting stuck. She shreiked in pain for about a half hour. The roof of her mouth and gums are bruised. The larger size may work better, but I am probably done with pacifiers anyway. I did not buy the 6+ months pacifier, trusting the manufacturer guidelines. I’m just glad that tears and bruising were the worst of it.

I was using a MAM Fashion pacifier clip and had only had it for about a month. I noticed that the edges of the band had become extremely frayed and could pose a choking hazard. I initially tried to trim off the long strings, but the band continued to fray. I had to discontinue using the product because I was afraid my son might choke on it.

The product, in the report: MAM Pacifier for ages 6+. It is white/clear with a picture of a giraffe.

My son, who is 23 months old, bit off the “teat” of his MAM pacifier. The piece that broke off is a choking hazard. He was in his crib. I am thankful that I noticed this in time and he did not choke. It is a MAM pacifier for 6 months and older, found on this link: http://www.mambaby.com/index.php?StoryID=11154&RefStoryID=11154&ProductID=925.
