The product, in the report: Bright Start, Musical Monkey, Teether Rattle

Bright Start monkey and rings musical teether toy, battery operated.

I am a grandparent of a ten month old baby and while the child was in my care at her home, I noticed her playing happily while leaning on an activity toy. I immediately noticed an object in her mouth, went over to her, and pulled the object out of her mouth. It was the battery cover with the one screw still intact, for three small, watch type batteries that make the toy have a musical sound when shaken. The screwed on the cover had come loose, spilling the batteries across the room. My granddaughter was not injured, but thinking of the what could have happened would have been potentially very dangerous.

I was in a state of shock this toy is available to small infants and if I had not been so quick to watch her or had turned my back for an instant, she could have swallowed and choked on the cover, as well as the small batteries that had spilled on the floor.

I cannot believe that a toy is on sold with these hazards, and as parents and caregivers we expect the toys we provide for our children are safe and free of dangers.

    Thank you, [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: pretty in pink teeth and carry purse

The consumer says her daughter who is 13 months was on the floor playing. She sat a blanket over top of ceramic tile floors. She set 4 toys by her. One of the toys was a teether purse. Her daughter stood up and put her hand on the couch. She leaned to take a step and fell forward right onto the teether purse.

On the purse was an indented flower that caught the left side of her nose. An imprint of a rose pedal was on her daughter’s nose ended up puncturing and slicing through the middle of her nose. A plastic surgeon had to put her nose back together.

The consumer contacted the manufacturer who said that they would have to send her inquiry up to a review board. The consumer was offered a replacement toy but she was not interested. The caller wanted to add also that the key ring also made by the company has the same type of piece except instead of a flower, it is a key ring.

The product, in the report: Bright Starts Silly Sounds Safari Rattle. It is a round teething rattle with a monkey and rings on it. It plays music. The holes where the speaker is are dangerous for an infant to chew on. The holes cut my infants gums.

My 3 1/2 month old began chewing on her new Bright Starts Silly Sounds Safari Rattle teether and it cut the upper gum in her mouth. This rattle plays music and the speaker area is there are a bunch of holes cut in the plastic to allow the sound to come out. On my rattle the holes were all sharp edges, not smooth at all, which resulted in my infant being injured by this toy. The area of gum that was cut was the little piece of gum that hangs down between the top center two teeth. The holes are perfect size for that little piece of gum to get stuck in the holes on the toy and cut the gum.

My daughter was playing with the Bright Starts Starry Teether yesterday and it came apart and two of the pieces were stuck in her mouth/throat. Luckily I noticed it right away and was able to get the pieces out by putting my finger in her mouth/throat and pulling out the pieces.

The product, in the report: Bright Starts Pretty In Pink™ Rattle & Teethe™ Model # 8836 This toy has a teether at one end , a plastic handle in the middle, and a rattle at the other end. It is about 6 inches long

I bought my daughter a Pretty In Pink™ Rattle & Teethe™ and she played with it for a month before I noticed Thursday that the teether was coming away from the rattle. I pulled gently on the teether to see if it really was coming off and the liquid inside sprayed me in the eyes. Once I rinsed my eyes out, I emptied the teether and finished pulling it away from the rattle which took suprisingly little effort. There was still a big loose plastic piece of the teether in the rattle that would have posed a choking hazard.
