  1. No one hurt

Made Jun 25, 2021, sent to the company Jun 30, 2021, published by CPSC Jul 15, 2021

The product, in the report: Vevor 3 in 1 Stroller with baby basket from Walmart.com https://www.walmart.com/ip/VEVOR-3-in-1-Stroller-Khaki-Baby-Stroller-3-in-1-with-Baby-Basket-No-Base-Foldable-Luxury-Baby-Stroller-Anti-Shock-Springs-High-View-Pram/920840812

On Sunday, 6/20, a nurse on our maternity floor at Yale New Haven Hospital, was preparing her patient for discharge. As part of that preparation she checked that the infant was secured appropriately in the car seat. She noted that, while strapped in correctly, something seemed ‘off’ with the car seat. On further investigation she realized that the seat was missing the chest clip on the straps. She questioned the family who said it had never been used before and was straight out of the box from her baby shower. It was bought here: https://www.walmart.com/ip/VEVOR-3-in-1-Stroller-Khaki-Baby-Stroller-3-in-1-with-Baby-Basket-No-Base-Foldable-Luxury-Baby-Stroller-Anti-Shock-Springs-High-View-Pram/920840812

The staff member checked the car seat manual that came with the seat and found that there was also no mention of the chest clip in the manual. She checked with the pediatric providers and they stated that there needed to be an appropriate car seat for the infant to go home. Another staff member who is a certified car seat technician then became involved. She then reached out to my Injury Prevention Coordinator who is a child passenger safety technician instructor with the story and the need to get a car seat. The family was held until my coordinator arrived to verify all this and issued the family a new car seat. On her investigation she realized that the seat the family had received as a gift was actually a counterfeit seat.

I do have a PDF with pictures and notes on the issues with the seat if you would like that. It is clear that this is a knock off of a European seat as whoever manufactured it tried to mimic the European labels but you can tell it is a fake. The full description on the website specifically states you can use the “basket” as a car seat with no base. This violates federal law as there is not a 5-point harness, no chest clip, no splitter plate in the back, improper labeling, etc.
