Running with 13-SC216 Schwinn Double Stroller. Front wheel fell off and stroller flipped. Took both kids (14 months and 3.5 yr/old) to urgicare since they both had bruises on their face. Youngest required an xray due to cheek bone bruises. Both girls were cleared of any fractures or concussions. Then they required another checkup with their PCM to ensure they were still in stable conditions.

I was at the zoo this morning with my daughters, ages 1 and 3. We were approximately half way through the zoo when my entire front wheel of my jogging stroller fell off. I attempted to put it back on, but could not do so, as I could not locate all of the pieces that fell off. I had to have my 3 year old walk beside me the rest of the way to the car, while I pushed my 1 year old on two wheels. She was extremely upset and cried until we got back to the car. Our entire day was ruined, as we had to leave before we finished seeing all of the exhibits.

The product, in the report: SCHWINN TURISMO DOUBLE JOGGING STROLLER

We purchased the Schwinn Turismo Double Jogger on 7/14/2014 from Amazon.com. We have now had multiple incidents where the front wheel falls off with normal activity and speed -- not running/jogging. This has happened after turning a corner and crossing a flat street; the wheel fell off in the middle of the intersection with cars waiting to cross. It has fallen off again when turning the corner of a hotel parking lot driveway, where there was no incline. And finally it happened again while turning a sidewalk corner at walking speed into a crosswalk in an intersection. Both our boys were loaded in the stroller each time it did this, and this final time (two days ago), we decided this was the last straw. The wheel has been unlocked when this happens, but again, it happens with normal speed, normal activity. I think this stroller is unsafe and of poor construction. It deceivingly receives high ratings on Amazon and Walmart and other major sites. The warnings to lock the front wheel are deceptive and vague -- “Front wheel MUST be locked in position during jogging or exercise activity.” The term “exercise activity” is VERY vague and can imply anything - including walking. I think this is very sly of Schwinn to phrase this warning in this manner -- it implies that my wife and I should have locked the wheel even during our normal non-strenuous activity, and therefore implies it was OUR fault that the wheel fell off when just walking and turning into crosswalks. It is a way for the company to wash their hands of the problem. I am VERY disappointed with this stroller. It is going straight to the trash. And I think the Consumer Products Safety Commission SHOULD RECALL THIS STROLLER IMMEDIATELY.

In addition to the warnings instructing users to lock the wheel during jogging or exercise activity, both the owner’s manual and product contain warnings instructing the user to check that the front wheel safety retention washers are properly installed, and the wheel nuts and quick release skewer are properly installed and securely tightened. Failure to properly install or secure the front wheel could result in the wheel falling off of the stroller.
All of our strollers, including this model, are tested to the ASTM F833-13b stroller safety standard by a CPSC approved third party lab to ensure compliance.

This is my second time writing a report about Schwinn jogging stroller. I wrote the same report last year around the same time and now the same exact thing happen to the replacement stroller they sent out. I was at Azalea Park in Roswell walking with my 2 year old daughter and my 4 year old was on her bike. I went to turn around after walking 2 and half miles and completely lost control over the stroller and it turned completely on its side because the front wheel came off. My 2 year screamed because it clearly scared her. With no front wheel attached there was no way to lift it up to a position to get her out of it. So I had to bend down and take her out of the safety harness. I woman came over to help me as I attempted to put the wheel back on but no luck because it was missing pieces.. I’m at a park and now I have to walk back carrying my two year old to my car which is 2 and a half miles away. Now the last time this happened the company wanted me to just throw the stroller away and this time I’m keeping it.. This is a danger.

My complaint is in regards to the Schwinn Tursimo Double Jogging Stroller.

I purchased this jogging stroller in February through Amazon.com. My wife and I have used this stroller quite frequently since purchasing for jogging around our neighborhood. We quickly learned that the front tire would become unstable at speeds faster than a brisk walking pace and learned that we needed to lock the front wheel if we wanted to run with the stroller. (Nowhere in the instruction manual, or any other materials that we received does it mention this.)
I was out for a run on Saturday August 30th with both of my kids in the stroller. We have a 3.5 year old (35 lbs) and a 2 year old (30 lbs). As usual I had the front wheel locked so as not to have it become unstable. Unfortunately, this particular day, that made no difference. I was 3/4 of a mile in to my run when the front wheel failed and I nearly went over the handle bars as the stroller nose-planted on the pavement when the front wheel buckled beneath it. It took everything I had, and the knowledge that my two girls where going to be seriously injured if I let the stroller flip all the way over. When the incident was over and I successfully returned the stroller back to the ground, the front tire lay on the street separate from the stroller itself. The front forks are so badly bent and the ‘prongs’ where the tire axle rests were so bent out of shape that there is no way to put the tire back on. You will notice in the last picture of the tire axle itself, the axle is actually bent as well. Once I was able to confirm that neither of my kids where hurt and I got them back home (safely), I began searching online for warranty remedies. It was at that point where I found this particular issue to be a huge problem for this make/model of stroller. There were countless blogs and reviews with many instances of this exact same thing happening over and over. There was one parent who documented their accident and related correspondence with Pacific Cycle very thoroughly. You can see their details at [REDACTED]Spend five minutes searching the web, and you will find countless others.
After contacting customer service of Pacific Cycles (parent company of Schwinn), they simply stated that they stand behind their product. My primary concern is that this is a major safety issue on a clearly defective product. What is it going to take for the company to take this seriously? A major injury to a baby or child??? Something needs to be done. They either need to fix the product or recall it. In any event, I am grateful that neither of my kids were hurt in the accident but I am now out $200 from a company that clearly doesn’t stand behind their product.
Please help. I don’t know how I can make a company this big do the right thing!

We appreciate feedback on our products for any potential safety or quality concern. The swivel strollers are not intended for use at high speeds and are designed to have the front wheel locked in place when moving faster than a normal walking pace. In addition, earlier this year we added an additional warning label to the top of the stroller on the parent tray to further remind and warn consumers that the front wheel must be locked in position during jogging or exercise activity and to check that the front wheel retention washers, wheel nuts, and quick release skewers are properly installed and securely tightened prior to use. Based on the product date code information you provided, your stroller was produced in 2013 prior to additional unit warning label.
Also your stroller is equipped with a quick release front wheel which must be securely locked in place prior to each use. The quick release front wheel is proven feature that has been reliably used for many years. When the quick release is properly installed (sufficiently tight and properly closed) the cam feature keeps the quick release in the closed position, which maintains the clamping pressure on the fork and safety washers prevent front wheel separation. However, for safety reasons we recommend that the quick release be checked before every use to ensure that it is sufficiently tight, properly closed and the locking tab washers are properly installed into the fork slots. Please refer to your owner’s manual for proper installation of this feature.

We were walking with our children - we had a Schwinn Turismo Double Seat Stroller. As my daughter was pushing the stroller, the front wheel came off and the whole stroller flipped over the top. Both children were injured along with my daughter. In reaching out to Pacific Cycle - I get a rather legal and standard answer of how it was probably my fault. As I continue to read on-line - I am noticing that I am not alone - something needs to be done about this problem, before a child is killed. They seem more focused on not being sued than truly fixing the problem. So much for safe products or even concern for the people buying your products -

I purchased a Schwinn Double Swivel Stroller and started having some major issues with it. I have a 3 year old and 1 (Preemie) year old. So I didn’t use the stroller until she was at least 9 months old. Well what started off as a nice stroller became a nightmare because if you start a light jog the front tire starts to shake. This Saturday I took my kids out for a light jog at the park and the wheel completely fell off. I fell trying to ensure that my kids didn’t get hurt. Thank god a man was walking pass and helped me get the wheel back on, which took over 30 minutes. My kids were not hurt but it definitely [REDACTED]. After doing some research I realized that this has been a huge problem for this type of stroller. Which is very sad because what is it going to take death or a serious injury of a toddler. Parents should be warned about this problem before they purchase this product. I purchased mine from amazon and nothing is stated on the website. I would of just purchased another brand so that my toddlers remained safe. They should refund anyone who has purchased this product.

Took my two children, 2 year old and a 10 month old for a walk around the block on a nice warm day in our fairly new Schwinn Turismo Double Jogging Stroller. Half way through the walk I wanted to start a light jog and when I did about 4 steps into the jog the stroller’s front wheel buckled, causing the stroller to fall over with my children buckled inside.

Hello my name is [REDACTED] and I recently purchased the Schwinn - Turismo Double Jogging Stroller at Wal-Mart about 2 month ago. Today August 1, 2013 at 5:30 I was jogging and my front wheel fell off and my stroller flipped outside down with both of my kids. Both of them were injured. My son had a big bump/knot on the right side of his forehead, and also scraped knees and arms. My daughter also in the stroller had scraped knees and arms. I was the one controlling the stroller and also got hurt pretty bad on my right leg I could not walk, someone that saw everything asked if she could give me a ride to my house. I’ve made a police report incase that evidence is needed I also have pictures of the accident. I also check out some reviews and I’ve seen that I’m not the only person this has happen to. (8/12/2013) PACIFIC CYCLE, INC: We are sorry to hear about your recent experience. Our swivel jogging strollers are designed to have the front wheel locked in place when jogging. As we warn in the owner’s manual, if moving faster than a normal walking pace, the front swivel wheel must be locked in a fixed position to avoid wheel wobble or tip-over. Also your jogging stroller is equipped with a quick release front wheel which must be securely locked in place prior to each use. The quick release front wheel is a proven feature that has been reliably used for many years. When the quick release is properly installed (sufficiently tight and properly closed) the cam feature keeps the quick release in the closed position, which maintains the clamping pressure on the fork and safety washers prevents front wheel separation. However, for safety reasons we recommend that the quick release be checked before every use to ensure that it is sufficiently tight, properly closed and the locking tab washers are properly installed into the fork slots. Please refer to your owner’s manual for proper installation of this feature.

Schwinn Turismo Swivel Double Jogger
I bought this double JOGGER in April of this year, 2013. So less than 4 months ago. We went for a few walks and to a few of our nephew and nieces sporting events with it. It worked just fine. ON July 9, 2013 we took the double jogger and my 2 daughters ages 5 months and my 2 1/2 year old to Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek MI. We had been walking a paved, cement trail to and from the different parks in the zoo, we were going down a hilly section of the park- nothing crazy. The front wheel all of a sudden buckled and threw the stoller forward over the top of my children and me. By the GRACE of GOD my 2 yr old only had SEVERE road rash on her arms, legs and face along with a bruised eye and other bruises that showed up later- my 5 month old however split her forehead OPEN!! The stroller was not repairable and did not work, so here I am with my two wounded children and no way to take them to saftey quickly, thank God after a few minutes a passerbyer came up and got help for me and my girls. We were rushed to the hospital where my 5 month old had to have x-rays and stiches/glue suchers. I had to watch her for 3 days waking her up every hour and a half to make sure she hadn’t fallen into a COMA!!!!! This is horrific- it could kill the next child!!! I am so thankful that the x-rays came back showing that her scull wasn’t cracked and that there was no visible hemmoraghing!!!! This is totally unacceptable

We appreciate feedback on our products for any potential safety or quality concerns. Unfortunately we do not have specific information regarding the model number and date code for your particular stroller, so we are not able to fully comment. However, we do suggest that you trim the excess off the zip ties, turn the ties so the head is behind the tube, and then cover the ties with tape. All of our strollers are designed and tested to pass the ASTM F833 Safety Standards for Strollers which includes evaluating the product for any sharp points or edges. On the latest models the brake cable is attached to the frame with a plastic clip and then covered by the stroller material. The clip is not easily accessible or exposed to the child.

The product, in the report: Schwinn - Turismo Double Jogging Stroller, Blue The stroller is blue, black and white with “Schwinn” embroidered on each side of each canopy, as well as in the middle on the front part of the seat. It has faux lambskin inserts in each of the two seats. It has 3 wheels, with the two rear wheels being larger than the front swivel wheel. Product in Inches (L x W x H): 49.02 x 32.67 x 39.96

I bought the Schwinn - Turismo Double Jogging Stroller for my 9 month old twins. This stroller has round metal pieces where the sun visor attaches to the stroller. When the seats are placed in the upright sitting position, the babies heads are lined up with these metal pieces so that whenever the stroller hits a bump, the babies hit their heads close to their temples on these metal pieces causing a nasty bump. I think this is really dangerous as if they hit their heads hard enough they could be injured quite badly.

We appreciate feedback on our products for any potential concerns and will share this information with our Quality Department to review. As we warn in the owner’s manual, the jogging stroller should never be used with children that cannot support their own head. Always use the 5-point safety harness, maintain a safe speed and do not travel over curbs, bumps or holes. The jogging stroller is not intended for use at high speeds. Please refer to your owner’s manual on detailed instructions on how to properly use the 5-point safety harness system.
In addition, the 5-point safety harness should be inspected before each use and adjusted as necessary to ensure the child is properly restrained.

While jogging the stroller has to have a locked front wheel. Occasionally the wheel in the front unlocks itself causing the stroller to stop and flip or continue and swerve. The handle to lock and unlock is up by the handle to push, and sometimes it stays in the locked position even when it has unlocked itself.

Your stroller is equipped with a remote front wheel swivel lock which allows you to easily switch between a swivel and fixed front wheel. To lock the front wheel in a fixed position, push the button. The product, in the report: The stroller is a red Schwinn Turismo Double Jogging Stroller. A 2 seat side-by-side jogging stroller with 3 rubber wheels.

I was walking with the stroller and then proceeded to start jogging with the stroller for the first time. A few steps after I began to jog, the front wheel shook violently and then locked up, causing our stroller to flip forward and land on top of our 2 children. I was pushing the stroller and fell down onto the side of the stroller. Both children were buckled in, however, our oldest was big enough that her head hit the street and left a large bruise on her forehead. I bruised and scrapped my knee.

We warn about this in the product manual and give the consumer additional instructions on how to adjust your swiveling function in the manual as well.

Thank you for your comments and concerns regarding one of our jogging strollers. We are sorry to hear you pinched your fingers in the hinges when unfolding the stroller. As we warn in the manual, there are pinch points on the sidewall of the frame that are necessary for the stroller to fold and unfold. Without the hinges, the product could not have a folding feature. This operation should be done with your hands on the handle, slowly and using caution. In addition, you will need to keep children clear of this area when folding or unfolding the stroller. Your user’s manual (Page 6 and Page 12) will give you detailed instructions on the proper operation and warnings when folding or unfolding your jogging stroller.
