The product, in the report: Peg Perego Z4 Full-Feature Reversible Stroller, with second seat
-We bought the stroller understanding, as the sales representatives at Albee Baby told us and as the Peg Perego website itself mentions, that each seat in the stroller is safe for a child up to fifty pounds. Our twins are 2 years old and each weigh about 28 pounds. -We received and assembled the stroller on Wednesday night, May 11, and started using it on the morning of Thursday, May 12. Immediately upon using it during that first week, my husband, my babysitter, and I all remarked how, when using the stroller, we all felt like it was going to tip over even when walking on a flat sidewalk and we were all a little hesitant about using the stroller. -On Saturday afternoon, March 21 — less than 10 days after receiving the stroller — I was walking back with the twins and my parents from a playground near our home. We crossed a crosswalk, and continued along a sidewalk. About five steps later, as we were walking along the sidewalk, the stroller tipped completely towards my right side. It almost hit the ground, but my father and I were able to catch it when it was a few inches away from a complete hit. Upon putting the stroller upright, we noticed that the 5-point harness on my daughter, who was sitting in the upper seat, had come partially undone from the force of the fall. No injuries occurred, thankfully.

The product, in the report: Peg Pérego Vela Esay Drive. Black. 2 front wheels.
Last year I bought a peg perego stroller vela easy drive. Every time we go for a walk the front tires fold and jam. Last this happened again but this time the baby hit his head against the as fault. The baby is fine now and nothing serious happened but I believe there should be a recall for this model. I have seen other people with this same stroller model and the front tire has been changed. I believe the company should exchange my stroller for one that is not dangerous for my baby.

Peg Perego Skate 2010 model. Serial number IP5530NA34FG74ST24 Crotch strap of harness pulled through slot while child in stroller, causing child to slide out of seat.
I previously reported another problem with this stroller. The height adjustment locks on the frame pop out of position.
In addition, the stroller handle previously came off, due to a screw in the handle coming loose. The company sent a replacement screw and the handle has not detached since.

Emergency room Made Dec 19, 2011, sent to the company Dec 28, 2011, published by CPSC Jan 12, 2012
The product, in the report: Peg Perego Vela Easy Drive stroller, Java. 2011 model (front wheels changed for 2011 from 2 central wheels to 2 more separated wheels for better stability)
While pushing my 20 month old through a parking lot, the front wheels of the stroller collapsed, causing the stroller to completely flip over and hitting my baby’s face into the parking lot asphalt. Peg Perego Velas also have a “float strap” which becomes unattached from the seat back to give the child more freedom, so while she did not fall out of the stroller, she still had the freedom to hit her head on the street.
The impact caused a bloody nose, abrasions, and a bruise on her forehead and nose. We immediately took her to the hospital to rule out broken nose and concussion (and thankfully she was fine).
The failure was due to the pin that holds the front wheels in place. It is not a hinge, but a stabilizer. It is kept in place by a hex bolt that apparently wiggled itself free. It had fallen off once before, but the bolt was retrieved and put back on the pin. This stroller has a severe design defect if moderate use of the stroller (3-4 hours, 1-2 times a week on sidewalk and alphalt) causes this bolt to loosen and the pin to fall out after being tightened very well.

No one hurt Made Oct 3, 2011, sent to the company Oct 12, 2011, published by CPSC Oct 26, 2011
The product, in the report: Peg Perego Skate modular stroller system, costs $799-$1000.
I received a Peg Perego Skate stroller system as a gift, new. The frame has three height positions, controlled by latches on either side of the frame itself. A bassinet or seat (included with system) locks into these latches.
The latches on my stroller began popping out of the locked positions while in use (with a baby in the seat). I reviewed the user manual and instructional video to verify I was using the stroller correctly. This problem has occurred on several occasions.
I called Peg Perego and they informed me that the stroller frame could not be repaired, but needed to be completely replaced. For this, I would need a receipt, which I did not have and could not obtain. I was willing to pay for a repair, but this was not an option. The representative told me I would need to purchase a new frame, which would cost upwards of $500.

The product, in the report: Peg Perego “Si” stroller from 2009
I own a Peg Perego “Si” stroller manufactured and purchased in 2009. It has two problems: 1. The front wheels will suddenly get stuck causing the stroller to abruptly stop and almost flip (I took mine in for repair for this within the first year, when it was still covered under warranty. It has since reverted back to getting stuck)
2. The brakes suddenly failed. They no longer work at all.
I purchased my Peg Perego Si in Canada, but they are available in the US as well.

No one hurt Made Jun 9, 2011, published by CPSC Jun 30, 2011
The product, in the report: I own the 2010 Peg Perego GT3 for Two in the Java color. The GT3 for Two is a tandem-like, inline configuration stroller. It is a performance stroller that can handle all types of terrain and it can accommodate two siblings with its convenient rear sling seat that sits in the basket of the stroller. The stroller is built to close with the included rear sling seat in place. The stroller is a three wheeler with a swivel or locked front wheel option and uses a hand brake. The back (sling) seat comes with a three-point harness and the front comes with the freedom to move five-point harness. The sling seat is rated to a 35 pound limit and the front seat is rated at a 45 pound limit.
Peg Perego’s GT3 for Two
On June 2, 2011, my 3 year old was sitting in the bottom seat of the GT3 for Two stroller and managed to push the close buttons causing the stroller to collapse on her and smash her while at a complete stop in the mall. THIS STROLLER SHOULD BE RECALLED. They should not design a stroller that plops easy to push buttons in front of a toddler giving them any opportunity to accidentally crush and hurt themselves if they happen to get curious and do what toddlers do. My Peg Perego GT3 for Two stroller was a special order item that I had shipped to Hawaii. It is a tandem like, all terrain stroller. I purchased the stroller the ending of 2010 through a local store but did not receive it here in Oahu until February. The stroller is still in excellent condition and everything is in great shape and working order. I have never used the stroller incorrectly nor have I ever placed a child that surpasses the weight limit in it. Both of my children are well under the seat’s advertised weight capacity and since it is a very expensive item I do handle it with care and respect.
When the incident occurred, the stroller was securely locked in its open usable position and we had been walking around the mall for about an hour or so with my daughter sitting in the bottom seat and my 1 year old nephew sitting in the top seat. My sister in law, our children, and I had just sat down for lunch and I took my daughter out of the seat to feed her. My nephew remained in the stroller and we pushed the stroller up to the table directly in between my sister in law and myself and locked the handbrake. When my daughter finished eating she wanted to rest in her stroller so I placed her back in it and buckled her in so I could eat without her sneaking out. Within a few minutes I saw the stroller collapsing out of the corner of my eye and both my sister in law and I reacted very quickly. I have no idea how we responded so fast, maybe mom instincts kicked in, but we both jumped up and grabbed the stroller. I had automatically grabbed hold of the handle bar and pulled upwards and my sister in law did the same. The stroller is on the heavy side so it was nearly on the ground when we caught it. I pulled the stroller up by the handle bar and my sister in law pulled the stroller back into the open position. I then locked the stroller open again and pulled my daughter from the bottom seat to check her for injuries and my sister in law did the same with her son. The kids were both crying at this point so after I looked her over and saw that she was not hurt I looked the stroller over to investigate how it shut closed. My daughter then told me that “she pushed the buttons by her chair”. I asked her which ones and she pointed out the buttons that we use to close the stroller. I then reached out and, instead of holding the handles next to the buttons which you normally hold while you close the stroller, I simply pushed both buttons at the same time. The stroller closed. I am so glad that my baby wasn’t hurt, but if we had not responded so quickly she could have been seriously hurt. I did not place my daughter in the stroller again and left the mall to drive over and see the manager of the store I purchased the stroller from. They referred me to Peg Perego.
I called Peg’s customer service the following day. According to the woman I spoke to, because my daughter pushed the buttons it is her fault and not a manufacturer design flaw. I was also told by the woman on the phone who claimed to have 4 children of her own that if it was her child in that scenario she would talk to her child and teach them not to push the buttons. Seriously? Shouldn’t that be in the instruction manual then? Make sure you teach your child not to push buttons or they may smash themselves. And, how often does your 3 year old actually do everything you say? You shouldn’t have to worry about your child’s safety while they are securely sitting in a stroller seat that was designed to transport them safely.
Peg said they have had no other complaints of this and no one has been injured which is what prompts other recalls so I am assuming that until someone really gets hurt, nothing will be done. Any toddler could lean forward and push this stroller’s easy-to-push and close buttons and get hurt. Children are intelligent and this issue must be addressed! Needless to say, we will not be using the stroller anymore since its is clearly a safety hazard.
I have always loved Peg but after today’s customer service experience I am really debating if I will ever purchase from them again. This was the first problem I have had with customer service but I would expect that a safety issue would take precedence over an issue like a simple replacement part and clearly it does not because supposedly this is my daughter’s fault. I have been in contact with Peg and will be sending my stroller back for them to inspect and see how it “malfunctioned” but, there is really nothing wrong with my stroller and everything on it functions the way it is suppose to - my daughter simply reached forward and pushed the buttons causing it to collapse. This was even labeled a behavioral problem by Peg and they stated that this is similar to when a child is able to unbuckle themselves from a stroller or a car seat and not a design flaw. I can understand correcting a child in that scenario. In that scenario a parent is aware that this is a possibility but in this case not only would a parent be unaware that this could possibly happen but unbuckling a seatbelt never caused something to collapse and sandwich your toddler. Fortunately this did not happen when my husband was out jogging with the kids because I imagine that if that were to occur while moving, especially running, a parent might trip and fall onto the stroller or something could take place that would really harm a child. I am also glad that no limbs were caught in or between the collapsing stroller frame.
I have asked Peg to please contact the parents who already own the stroller with their nifty warranty/recall cards and to issue at least a notice to prevent another child from getting hurt but so far nothing has been done. I hope that they will do something soon, otherwise I will not be purchasing from them again or refer people to their merchandise since safety is the number one priority for my children and no action would show that the safety of our children is not a priority to their company. Since no parents are being notified and nothing is yet being done to prevent harm or injuries from this I have been posting warnings online in hopes of preventing any child from getting hurt. I am especially concerned for the parents who already own the stroller and are oblivious as I was that this occurrence is even a possibility.
