The product, in the report: Joovy Big Caboose triple stroller

I am filing this complaint due to a pattern of broken product promises, critical safety hazards, and completely unresponsive customer service that puts my children in direct physical danger. I originally purchased the Joovy Qool because it was advertised as a triple stroller, but Joovy failed to ever make the third seat available for purchase on their website despite giving me multiple verbal assurances that it would be in stock. Lacking the necessary components to seat three children completely defeats the primary purpose of purchasing a triple stroller in the first place. After nearly a year of waiting, Joovy agreed to send me their Caboose model as a replacement multi-child stroller, but this stroller features severe, dangerous design flaws. The brakes are poorly constructed and fail to remain locked, as minor movements from my children inside the stroller cause the brake to disengage automatically. The stroller has rolled away from me multiple times, including a terrifying instance where it rolled toward active street traffic. Additionally, the front seats lack a positive locking mechanism to secure the recline angle, meaning any minor movement causes the front seat to immediately collapse and slam into the fully reclined position. This creates an extreme risk of impact injury to the child sitting directly behind it, especially since children routinely eat and drink in these seats using the included table and cup holder attachments. A front seat violently collapsing backward while a child in the second seat is holding hot food, a fork, or a cup creates an unacceptable risk of severe burn or puncture injury. Compounding these severe hazards, I have reached out to Joovy directly via Instagram direct message to resolve these issues, and while I can see that they viewed my message, they have refused to respond. Joovy has provided a product line plagued by unfulfilled functional promises, severe manufacturing safety issues, and negligent communication, and I request immediate resolution regarding these hazards.

The product, in the report: Joovy Stroller

Company fails to honor its warrant resulting in company advising customer to simply continue using an unsafe product . Company owner promises to “take care of customer” and then proceeds to ignore customer for over one week and provides no resolution. This after his customer service team ignored customer for 2+ weeks. Company levies unjustifiable requirements on customers in order to avoid honoring their warranty and puts customers and their families at risk by insisting a stroller is safe without taking steps to investigate or support company assertions. Owner of Joovy is combative in phone conversations and intentionally asks customer to submit the same information multiple times in order to avoid honoring warranty. He claims there was an outage with his CRM system over a year ago yet the current issue and documentation was submitted within the last 30 days, just one of many examples of manipulative and dishonest behavior.

The bottom line is the company negligently refuses to honor its warranty and stand behind the quality of its product. The company also does not take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of the stroller and attempts stall and delay tactics hoping customers will just go away rather than having to honor their warranty. I am not the first customer to complain about this and seems to be a pattern of abusive behavior to customers.

UPDATED ON 7/9/2024: [The risk of harm is:

Stroller frame was unstable, lacks structural integrity and does not turn properly. This could result in stroller turning over or getting stuck and causing either the adult pushing the stroller to trip and fall and/or the stroller itself to turn over sideways with a child inside causing the child to fall on the ground.]

UPDATED ON 8/5/2024: [Joovy fails to honor its warranty legal and ethical obligations, resulting in Joovy advising customer to simply continue using an unsafe product. Joovy’s owner promises to “take care of customer” and and resolve their issues then proceeds to ignore customer for over two weeks and provides no resolution. This continued delay occurred even after Joovy’s customer service team ignored customer for 2+ weeks prior. Joovy then attempted to levy unjustifiable and excessive requirements on customer in order to avoid honoring their warranty and puts customers and their families at risk by insisting a stroller is safe without taking steps to investigate or support their assertions. Owner of Joovy is combative in phone conversations and intentionally asks customer to submit the same information multiple times in order to avoid honoring warranty. I provided both an audio recording and advised that I would send the stroller back to the company for a full inspection so that they could have as much time as they wanted to inspect and review the safety issue. Joovy denied to accept the stroller back for inspection and refused to provide a shipping label to safely return the stroller.

All customers are highly encouraged to further review BBB complaints and complaints on other forums where other customers have experienced the exact same issues. This seems like a pattern exhibited by Joovy.

Furthermore, Joovy continues to manipulate and misrepresents facts. Approximately one year ago upon purchasing the stroller, I noted that the company had mis-respresnted the dimensions of the stroller. The company admitted that they had, in writing, published inaccurate dimensions of the stroller. As a result, prior to first purchasing the stroller, I used the measurements to ensure the stroller would fit in my trunk. After receiving the stroller, I discovered that the advertised measurements were incorrect and the stroller would not fit in my car without burdensome disassembly and re-assembly process. Joovy is trying to blame me for raising a complaint about something that was their mistake. I ask the general public, if you went to a TV store to purchase a 50 inch TV, the store told you they were selling you a 50 inch TV and then they arrive at your house and deliver a 20 inch TV, would you be happy? I certainly wouldn’t be and is the reason for my original complaint which they are trying to imply in their response here was my fault. They made the mistake. They admitted to such in writing (contact me if you’d like a screenshot of their email admitting such) and now Joovy wants to manipulate the facts via their response here to try and deceive other consumers. At the time, I decided to keep the stroller because they admitted their mistake and promised to continue to provide quality customer service. However, this does not mean that Joovy does not need to honor its warranty if a future issue arises, especially one related to safety. This is exactly what is happening here, where now a year later, the stroller in my opinion is defective and could cause harm. This is well within their 2 year warranty which they are obligated to honor. The fact that I chose to keep the stroller a year ago because the company incorrectly reported dimensions doesn’t mean they can sell me a defective and unsafe stroller and not fix it under their warranty period.

Then Joovy tries to imply I am “uncooperative” in helping them to resolve the issue. The fact is that I provided as much information as humanly possible, and they continued to repeatedly ask for the same information over and over again (claiming they could not find it) in what I believe to be a deliberate attempt to avoid honoring their warranty through burdensome and deceptive stall tactics. It is also ironic that they claim they offered to inspect the stroller at my home and that I was “uncooperative”. The truth and facts are that after ignoring me for 3+ weeks and not responding at all, they then out of the blue offer to show up to my home on a Saturday with less than a day notice. I told them I had already made plans that I could not change for that Saturday (since they gave me no advance notice) but I offered the entire week almost any day or time where they could come to inspect. They declined and said I had to make myself available at the one time they are offering and without sufficient notice. Them trying to imply I was uncooperative or prevented them from coming to inspect is entirely inaccurate and again a misrepresentation of facts and is deceptive. It is ironic that they omitted all of these key facts from their response. I have provided evidence including screenshots in writing to the CPSC where I offered, in writing, multiple opportunities and times for Joovy to inspect the stroller. They cannot deny this as it is in writing and such evidence has been provided to CPSC. Anything to the contrary is yet again deceptive behavior and manipulation of facts.

Bottom line is the company, in my opinion, negligently refuses to honor its warranty and does not stand behind the quality of its product. The company also does not take appropriate steps to ensure the safety of the stroller and attempts stall and delay tactics hoping customers will just go away rather than having to honor their warranty (and they have done this to other customers as reported via the BBB). I am not the first customer to complain about this and seems to be a pattern of abusive behavior to customers.

The risk of harm is: Stroller frame was unstable, lacks structural integrity and does not turn properly. This could result in stroller turning over or getting stuck and causing either the adult pushing the stroller to trip and fall and/or the stroller itself to turn over sideways with a child inside causing the child to fall on the ground. ]

The product, in the report: Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight stroller

    Joovy Zoom 360 Ultralight Stroller.

I, an adult, was jogging with the stroller with my toddler strapped into it.

The front wheel wobbles when going over bumps in the road and worsens at jogging speeds. To be clear, when I say the front wheel is wobbling, it is firmly connected and attached to the stroller frame, it is just pivoting back and forth uncontrollably. It appears that it’s an interaction between the rear wheels and the front wheels because when I lift the front wheel up or the back wheels up, the wobble stops. There is a little room for the rear wheel and axles to slide in and out of their mounting points. There is almost a harmonic motion between the front wheel wobbling back and forth and the rear wheels sliding in and out of their axles.

There were no injuries but the front wheel has wobbled so extensively it’s gone sideways causing the stroller to tilt over sideways and the person pushing the stroller to potentially fall over on top of the stroller because the stroller suddenly slows down suddenly.

This all occurs both before and after installing the front wheel bearing replacement kit which was part of the recall for this product. https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2022/Joovy-Recalls-Zoom-360-Ultralight-Jogging-Strollers-Due-to-Fall-Hazard-Recall-Alert Recall Number: 22-701

The front wheel is very wobbly. I can’t go faster than a walk without it shaking. If I go faster than a walk I have to lift the front tire off of the ground. I [REDACTED] it and saw there is a recall on it for issues with the front wheel so I’m assuming this is the issue its referring to. It started back in May and I’m just getting around to checking it. I’ve been using our back up cheap stroller most of the time.

The product, in the report: Joovy Caboose Ultralight Graphite is a Stand-on Tandem Stroller. It is designed for one younger child to sit in the front and an older child to either sit or stand on the back. Per the Youtube video and manuals on their website, the child can either face inwards towards the parent or outwards towards the younger child. They can also sit down on the bench seat. I purchased the Turquoise model from Target.com in March 2016. There is a large plastic hook on the right side of the stroller that can rotate 360 degrees and is at direct eye level of a standing child.

My three year old daughter was riding on the stand up platform on the Joovy Ultralight Graphite Caboose Stroller. She was facing me and her foot slipped and her head fell forward. Her eye was impaled by the plastic hook on the right side of the stroller. This hook locks the stroller when folded and is at direct eye level of a standing child. The hook can rotate 360 degrees at ease. My daughter was screaming for help and I thought her hair was caught at first. She then yelled that her eye was stuck on the hook and I had to physically, with force, remove her head from the hook. The ambulance took us to a Pediatric emergency room and then three hours later she was transferred to Duke University to see an Opthamologist and Occular Plastic Surgeon. The following morning, she underwent anesthesia in an operating room to repair the severe lacerations to her lower eye lid. Her tear duct was severed so they had to insert a stent. She is home and resting now but the traumatic moment will be hard to get over. I have been in contact with Joovy on this matter but there has been no discussion of resolution or recall. We will have follow up doctor visits for her eye stent.

The product, in the report: Joovy Caboose Stand-On Tandem stroller

I have owned the Joovy Caboose Stand-On Tandem stroller for approx. 5 months. I have only used the child restraint belt about 5 times because I have mostly used the stroller with the infant car seat carrier. Three days ago I was going to strap my son in the seat for a walk and the left side of the buckle would not lock in place. I moved the male ends of the buckle a little and it eventually locked in place, but I was able to unlock it simply by pulling up on it.

The product, in the report: Joovy Zoom360 Swivel Wheel Jogging Stroller Red

Zoovy 360 running stroller almost strangled my baby.

I am writing to tell you what happened with my one-year -old daughter. She was trying to get something out of the basket of the Joovy 360 Running stroller. She put her head between the two ropes (one being the rope which attaches the bottom of the seat to the basket--the other being the rope which is attached from the basket for parents to put around their wrists. When accessed what she wanted from the basket, she backed out and made a little turn at the same time.

One of the ropes was around her throat while the other one was tight against the back of her neck not allowing her to move. I heard her scream and ran up to her seeing that SHE COULD NOT BREATH AND WAS BEING STRANGLED by the ropes of the ZOOVY stroller! I have never been so scared in my life. I couldn’t think and tried to pull her out but she was completely entangled. I knew there was not much time to act so I ran to get a scissors and cut her out. She had rope burn around her neck.

Having two slack ropes at the bottom of the stroller is a hazard and a poor design choice for a stroller.

My son’s foot was caught between the wheels and the footrest on his stroller. I had stopped the stroller for a minute to look at something at the store, then started to push again. At first I thought the stroller wheel was caught on a store display, then I realized his foot was caught in the stroller wheel. I stopped and took his foot out, which was red. He was screaming in pain.
