The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

The product, in the report: Received this jogging Instep stroller as a gift at my baby shower. It is red.

My daughter and I were on a jog this morning using the Instep jogging stroller and the front wheel fell off causing us to face plant into the gravel and me to fall on top of her. Her face is all scraped up and I have multiple scrapes on my legs from falling on top of the stroller.

The product, in the report: it’s a double jogging stroller, made for two children

While just starting to run with my 2 grandchildren in an InStep Suburban Safari double jogging stroller model 11-AR825 on July 4th, 2016, the front wheel fell off and caused the stroller to flip forward, injuring the two children and myself. I notice that this model of stroller is not part of the recall, but believe that it should be. We were participating in the Leon Valley Firecracker 5K in Leon Valley, Texas.

The product, in the report: Instep jogging stroller, purple, single. Please see attached photos for images of the stickers above the right and left wheels.

The front wheel detached from the Instep jogging stroller while my child was in it. The piece connecting it to the stroller (the same piece being replaced in the current recall) was irreparably damaged and we had to replace it at a local bike shop. The adult was walking at the time and the child was not injured.

I think my stroller may be older than those currently covered by the recall, but I don’t know for sure because we purchased it used at a garage sale in 2013. It is a purple, single Instep jogging stroller.

The stickers with the manufacturer’s numbers are partly rubbed out. Here is what I can see above the right wheel:

    INSTEP LLC 2425 Enterprise Drive Suite 900, Mendota Heights, MN 55120, U.S.A T02 R 00 I ITEM NO. KA100 MADE IN CHINA

Above the left wheel, there is another sticker that says: 086100028798

The product, in the report: InStep Safari Single Seat Swivel Wheel Lifestyle Stroller, 11-AR190

I was out jogging with my daughter when the front wheel came unscrewed from the stroller causing the stroller to flip over front first. My daughter was strapped in and surprisingly didn’t sustain any major injuries (other than scratches on her face and legs). I fell when the stroller flipped and hit my chest and underarm on the curb of the sidewalk. I also sustained injury to my arms and legs. This stroller is unsafe and should not be labeled a ‘jogging stroller.’ The user manual does not state the stroller should not be used for jogging, it simply says to check all parts are secure before each use.

My children and I were going for a jog with our Instep Safari double stroller when the front wheel flew off causing my daughters ankle to get hurt and bruising up my leg. My son who was on the other side of the stroller was not hurt. The stroller is now broken because of the impact which damaged the part of the stroller that holds the wheel.

The product, in the report: InStep Safari Double Jogging stroller

I was using a double walking stroller (InSTEP Safari , by pacific cycle model #: 11-AR280) While pushing the stroller over rail road track the stroller stated to fold up. My 2 year old daughter went to brace herself as the stroller was starting to fold. At the same time i lifted the handle to lock the stroller. At this time my daughter placed her hand in a pinching point of the stroller. The pinch point had a shearing action and caused my daughter to have a partially amputated pinky finger. My daughter was taken by ambulance to the emergency room where a orthopedic surgeon deemed it necessary to have emergency surgery to regain blood flow and correct the compound fracture off the pinky finger. A pin was placed in finger to support the fracture. These procedures helped. My daughter may need corrective surgery a year or two from now to straighten her finger.

Our family was running in a 5k to benefit hospice and the front wheel of our instep double jogging stroller fell off causing the stroller to tip forward onto the concrete resulting in injuries to both my children and my husband. My oldest son received scratches on his hand and a bruise on his head. My youngest son had to be rushed to the ER do to a serious head contusion. I noticed someone else reported this same incident. It was definitely not due to the consumer not properly installing the front wheel because the front screw bent causing the front wheel to fall off. The screw was put in by the manufacturer not the consumer. I do not recommend this stroller to anyone because this could of caused death to a small infant. We had issues with this stroller from the beginning when we were missing of the trays. We are now out the price of the stroller and over $1k in medical bills. So not worth it!!!

Front wheel of stroller FELL OFF while running at top speed. Locking mechanism on stroller then immediately malfunctioned and stroller CLOSED and collapsed on 2 children, ages 3 years and 20 months. Jogger and 3 year old sustained no injuries, but 20 month old’s arm was caught between the bars as it closed and he sustained lacerations and deep bruising. All three individuals then had to walk home, dragging the stroller, for a mile.

InStep Safari Swivel Wheel Double Jogger

I have owned this product for 2 years and the button for folding it up has decided to stop working. Not a big deal as it doesn’t fold up on accident since it works against the kids weight but when I started pushing it up a hill the small crack cause from the malfunction closed and badly pinched my childs skin. If a finger got caught in there it could cause major damage.

I purchased the InStep Grand Safari Double Jogger stroller, Style #11-AR220B. After having the stroller for about 6 months (barely used since it was mostly winter time) we had a problem with the canopies. My 4 year old moved the one canopy forward and the hinge connecting the two canopies together popped off. On one side the the spring sticks out so she keeps catching herself on it and has sustained scratches and minor cuts. I was able to use a wrench to put the two end pieces back together but it popped off again. So far I haven’t been able to find a recall about it or replacement parts. This is not a cheap stroller so I hate to throw it out and buy another when it’s still functional.

InStep Safari Double Jogging Stroller Model #11-AR279

Part of the latch that holds the stroller open when not folded up broke when going over a curb (pushed down on the stroller handle to get the front wheel onto the curb, which broke the latch), causing the stroller to start to fold up with the kids in it. The latch is made of plastic, so the pressure pushing down on the handle to get it onto a curb or step is enough to break it. The stroller is rated to hold up to 100 lbs, the kids in weighed 25 lbs and 35 lbs, so well below the rated weight.

The product, in the report: double seat swivel wheel jogging stroller. Instep Grand Safari Double jogging stroller. Manufactured by Pacific Cycle

The front wheel of my Double Seat Swivel Wheel Jogging Stroller CAME OFF while running. I almost severely injured myself and my two children. The front wheel shakes severly if not in lock mode, yet there is nothing in the manual that says it must be in lock mode at certain speeds. It is very dangerous and COMMON among product owners, since I just saw a lot of reviews on the internet about it. Customer service is very quick to send you a new front fender (mine got bent in the accident), so I’m assuming they deal with this issue A LOT. This product should be recalled.

The product, in the report: InStep Grand Safari Swivel Wheel Jogger

I have used this stroller for 6 months now, 2-4 times a week on average I’d say. While out on a 4-miler the other day, the front wheel came clear off. Just... popped off. LUCKILY I had slowed down to a walk as I was going around a 90-degree corner downtown. I was planning on popping into the library really quickly, so I was going to go into swivel mode. I had just flipped it to swivel mode from locked (as I was WALKING)... and then the thing lurched. I looked down to see that the wheel and the metal U-shaped thing that holds it were all bent at a funny angle. I just thank God this didn’t happen while I was at full speed. We both would have crashed... badly.

I had to do my best to reattach the wheel so that we could walk home. I had to cut my run short, this happened 2 miles in. As I walked home, the fact that I nearly crashed set in, and I decided that I was NOT using this stroller again no matter what. It just did not feel safe anymore and I did NOT trust it. Also, even just walking home, it didn’t push quite right anymore. Something had gotten bent/broken on it when the wheel came off.

Now, I need to say that I’ve been training for competitive races for 3 years now. I’ve been running with a jogging stroller of some kind for a year. I’ve used THIS model for 6 months. I’m not an idiot. I know HOW to run with a jogger. I check the air pressure on all tires every other run.

The other morning, I put air in all the tires (which is a HUGE pain in the ass on the front wheel, even with a specially-designed pump). That’s all I did. I didn’t mess with the quick release wheel mechanism. I NEVER have messed with it. EVER.

When I got home, I put my son down for his nap and IMMEDIATELY contacted In Step... thinking that surely a company who makes BABY products would have excellent customer service and be eager to help me be as safe as possible. I asked to talk to someone about a warranty claim, as this stroller supposedly has a 1-year warranty. The rep I was connected with was vaguely sympathetic, but very firm in that it was somehow MY FAULT. She was convinced that either I had loosened the quick-release wheel or had been running with it in swivel mode. I argued with her, and told her 3 separate times that I had not messed with the wheel and that I’m not stupid and was NOT running in swivel mode. The very suggestion of it is kind of laughable, as the stroller wobbles dangerously at even a fast walk in swivel mode - it would be pretty much impossible to really run with it. She finally said that what they could do under the warranty was send me replacement parts. I said thanks but no thanks, I am not using an unsafe product with my first born son in it, and that I will not be giving In Step any more of my money ever again.

I recieved a call from a customer, [REDACTED], that her stroller wheel had come off with a child in the stroller causing the stroller to flip and her to fall. The child was not hurt and no one needed medical attention but it easily could have been otherwise. The bad wheel was the front wheel of a double jogging stroller made by In-Step. The mechanism that appears to have caused this was the “quick release” feature that is common on some bike tires.
