The product, in the report: Bugaboo Butterfly Stroller, color Black/Midnight Black. Compact/lightweight umbrella-style stroller for infants/toddlers, purchased new from Bugaboo. Purchased March 30, 2023 for $359.20. The specific defect involved the left rear wheel, which detached due to a missing screw.
While using the Bugaboo Butterfly Stroller, the left rear wheel fell off due to a missing screw. The wheel detachment happened suddenly during normal use, causing the stroller to become unstable and difficult to control. A child was in the stroller at the time of the incident. No screw was missing or loose prior to this incident to my knowledge the wheel simply came off, which suggests either a manufacturing defect (missing/improperly secured screw) or a component failure. No injury occurred, though there was a risk of the child falling or the stroller tipping over.

No one hurt Made Oct 19, 2025, sent to the company Nov 6, 2025, published by CPSC Nov 26, 2025
The product, in the report: The product is a Bugaboo Dragonfly stroller, color Black/Midnight Black, standard U.S. model. It is a compact, full-feature stroller designed for infants and toddlers. The stroller has a reversible seat that reclines to multiple positions, a telescoping handlebar, a storage basket beneath the seat, and four wheels with suspension. The affected part is the seat hardware/frame, which supports the recline mechanism and connects to the stroller chassis. The stroller measures approximately 36 inches long x 18 inches wide x 40 inches high when open. Serial numbers: Original stroller: 46012331001134 Replacement stroller: 46012338007039
Hello, we own the Bugaboo Dragonfly stroller that we purchased through Albee Baby in Sept 2023. The stroller was being used for our infant during normal walks. While in the upright position, the seat back suddenly drops backward into a reclined position while the child is seated creating a hazard. The child was buckled and not injured but the sudden movement could have caused injury. This happens with the stroller frequently.
We had already replaced the original stroller under warranty due to other issues, and this defect is occurring with the replacement unit. We reported the issue to Bugaboo, and they confirmed our serial number (46012338007039) is not included in the December 2023 CPSC recall, which cited a similar failure. They automatically sent a replacement seat frame without verifying that the safety problem was resolved. Because this incident appears to match the defect described in the recall, we believe the safety issue may extend beyond the original recalled serial numbers.

The product, in the report: Serial number/item code: 42012228000967 Stroller name: Bugaboo Butterfly (complete Black/Forest green)
One side of my Bugaboo Butterly stroller chassis broke in half in the middle of the street in Manhattan ([REDACTED]) and my child tipped over to the side with the stroller almost hitting her head on the asphalt street. This is an extremely upsetting and scary product defect as the stroller has been used only in the city and my child is not even near the weight limit. The stroller was bought in November 2022 and has been used only a little over two years.

The product, in the report: Bugaboo Fox 2 in grey
I bought the bugaboo fox 2 in the summer time and only used it for church as I have another stroller for when out and about. One day when I put my child in the stroller it completely collapsed and my child almost fell out but I caught him in time, then i thought maybe I didnt latch it properly but noticed that if the stroller is stored in the cold temp it does not latch properly as I do not have issues with it if when I store it inside where it is not cold. I have other friends that have the bugaboo fox 2 with the same issue. It does not latch properly if stored in the cold and it collapses and is a safety hazard!

The product, in the report: “Bugaboo Butterfly - The ultra-compact stroller for travels near and far”
My wife and I purchased a Bugaboo Butterfly a month ago. We were traveling with our twins at the airport. They are six months old. Once we got through security, and the stroller went through the x-ray machine, we put the stroller on the ground, opened it up, and when i put my son in the stroller it collapsed to the ground, that is the stroller folded with our son in it and he fell backwards inside the stroller and banged his head on the ground. he started crying immediately and we were of course worried that he was concussed at best and some kind of internal brain bleeding at worst. So far, he seems okay however, i can’t imagine we’re the only ones that this has happened to. the manufacturer - Bugaboo International B.V. - while I understand they’re very focused on a clean design for their high end $500 stroller, there are several ways in which they could design features or even signals that the stroller isn’t fully locked / safe to seat a baby. For example, there are these little white lines near the handles to show once the stroller is locked in place, but the lines are white in color to match their design color scheme - these should be either green or red and even say something like “safe” and “no safe”. I know it’s not the cleanest design but given the stakes, they should overdo it on safety.

No one hurt Made Sep 21, 2023, sent to the company Sep 25, 2023, published by CPSC Oct 10, 2023
The product, in the report: Bugaboo Dragonfly stroller, specifically the seat (not the bassinet or frame). https://www.bugaboo.com/us-en/strollers/bugaboo-dragonfly/bugaboo-dragonfly-bassinet-and-seat-stroller-PM006447.html
We experienced three instances of the Bugaboo Dragonfly stroller’s seat collapsing with our baby daughter in it after unfolding the stroller. In all instances, the seat back collapsed downward after being unfolded with the seat in parent-facing mode. In one instance, the seat back collapsed so far that our daughter was angled towards the floor and began sliding towards the floor - a very scary potential of falling on her head/neck to the floor. We luckily were able to catch her before she fell, but barely. We immediately notified Bugaboo support and have yet to receive any response, which we think is irresponsible. Through a web search, we found this Bugaboo article: https://service.bugaboo.com/s/article/UPDATE-Important-notice-regarding-Bugaboo-Dragonfly-seat-safety?language=en_GB The issue reporting instructions in that article are wrong (they point to a UK support email address), and the blame-y wording points to incorrect use by users. However, article doesn’t describe how to unfold the stroller properly, and it is telling that it does not link directly to the user guide. In fact, the user guide is unreadable and unclear (literally - it includes pictures only, with no words!). We would like Bugaboo to (1) be clear about how to use its stroller safely and (2) immediately recall the unsafe stroller seat and replace it for all customers.

No one hurt Made Dec 17, 2014, sent to the company Dec 29, 2014, published by CPSC Jan 13, 2015
The product, in the report: Bugaboo 71101 Cameleon Seat / Bassinet Frame
I have a Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller with a seat/bassinet frame part #71101. I have had the stroller for about 3 1/2 years. While I was walking my 3 1/2 year old ~35 pound son the seat frame broke in half causing the frame to break off from the stroller and my son to fall to the ground. After I assisted my son, I looked at the stroller and saw that the plastic holding the parts together had broken in half causing the seat to be unattached to the frame. Luckily, it is winter time and my son was wearing a jacket and did not sustain any major injuries. It does not seem to be a safe design for a stroller to come apart while in use.
I then contacted Bugaboo and they did not seem to think this was an important issue and did not ever offer a replacement part. There response was “Just like any mobile unit, maintenance and part replacements are sometimes necessary.” Which means to me that a stroller breaking in half during normal use is just part of everyday maintenance. Based on their lack of concern, I am led to believe that is may be a common occurrence.

The product, in the report: 2007 Bugaboo Frog Navy Blue Stroller
I was pushing my child through my apartment complex when the stroller folded down on it’s own causing the bassinet to hit the ground and my 11 week old to be tossed around in it. There were no serious injuries but he cried for a considerable amount of time. Now I’m afraid of taking him for a walk in this stroller because it could have resulted in a way worse outcome (I’m glad he wasn’t in the seat!)

No one hurt Made Feb 4, 2013, sent to the company Feb 12, 2013, published by CPSC Feb 27, 2013
The product, in the report: Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller
We purchased the Bugaboo Cameleon stroller in May 2011 right before our son was born. When our son was about 12-13 months old (the stroller was already converted from the bassinet), we noticed that every time we put our son in the stroller we had to re-tighten the harness straps. From about 12 months on our son was able to take his arms out of the shoulder harness straps but we continued to just tighten the straps each time we put him in the stroller and just figured that there was nothing we could do. Every time we went to BuyBuyBaby I would ask if there is anything I could do and they would tell me they have heard people complaining about that before. At around 17 months old our son had figured out that by just pulling on the straps he could loosen them and then one day he completely turned himself around and stood up in the stroller! Obviously I took my son out of the stroller immediately and stopped using it completely. I am lucky I caught him before something serious happened. When I called Bugaboo Customer Service in October 2012 to tell them this they told me that they have gotten a lot of complaints about this and have addressed the issue in their newer model. They told me that they have completely re-designed their harness system so that the straps can no longer loosen on their own and they would send the new harness with a new seat fabric so I can install it in my model stroller. Since I stopped using the stroller completely I had forgotten to send them the information that they requested but then I saw a few weeks ago another part on the stroller (the carry handle) was recalled. So, I got together all of the information and sent it to them. I also followed up with a call to request a full refund for the stroller since I had so many complaints and safety concerns and I was no longer using the stroller because of my safety concerns. They told me, “It is not our policy to issue refunds due to safety concerns, we will try our best to address your issues.” At that point I decided to report my issues to the CPSC, I figured that if I am having this problem with the safety harness so are many other people. If Bugaboo has a fix for the problem, everyone should get it! To date I have still not gotten the new safety harness system and seat fabric. I called Bugaboo again this morning and submitted all of my information again to them. They told me that the first time I submitted my information it was incomplete although I provided them with everything they asked for. I did however receive the new carry handle promptly since it was “officially” recalled.

First aid Made Jan 8, 2013, sent to the company Jan 23, 2013, published by CPSC Feb 13, 2013
The product, in the report: Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller
This stroller is dangerous. No matter how many times we tighten the straps, it ALWAYS comes loose. This has always been a safety concern for us, but our daughter was always zipped up in the foot muff and didn’t really move a lot, so we just continued to tighten the straps as they came loose. She is now 23 months old and is able to take the loose straps off. As I was pushing the stroller today, my daughter got out of the straps and fell out of the stroller and landed on her face. She had a bloody nose and cut her lip. I didn’t have the safety bar attached because we use the Bugaboo snack/cup holder and you can’t attach the bar if the snack/cup holder is attached - in hindsight, another safety concern that should be addressed. I’m relieved her injuries weren’t severe.
I am extremely upset. My husband and I take the time to research every baby product we purchase and spend a considerable amount of money on these products to ensure our child’s safety. This is a highly rated, EXPENSIVE stroller with safety straps that seem like an afterthought. Apparently this is a very popular problem and Bugaboo’s solution to “cross” the straps to fix the problem is not an acceptable solution. The straps need to be re-designed and replaced or the stroller should be recalled.

Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller: A previous incident report was submitted: CPSC Posted Your Report No. 20120606-7A8AD-2147466884 on SaferProducts.gov
Due to the broken safety belt, Bugaboo finally sent a replacement seat “after” filing this report. However, as mentioned in the above report number, the safety belt is not safe. The straps continue to loosen on their own. They do not hold their position. On a daily basis (and on long trips) you MUST tighten the safety belt. This is not safe for infants under one year old. I believe one year old and up the belt in its loose form can hold a child safely. When I mentioned this to the Bugaboo customer service rep responding to the report number above she indicated my straps were from an older model and that the replacement would take care of this. This is not true.
Since we received the replacement safety belt, on numerous occasions not only do we have to tighten the straps, but the straps fall off the shoulder of the infant and must be repositioned, or if the child sits forward we must jump to secure him as he could fall out.
This must be corrected. The new model in the stores is still the same. The safetly belts do not hold their position. There are four positions to tighten the straps and all four do not hold their position.

The product, in the report: Bugaboo chameleon stroller purchased in 2008 The serial number is 1105552.
While buckling the baby into the stroller, her leg was pinched between the buckle and the clasp. This happened twice in the last two months. There should be a plastic flat piece behind the clasp (on the leg side) to prevent the skin from being caught while fastening buckle. It was very painful for my child and resulted in a cut with blood blister the first time and bruise the second time. You can be extremely careful but if the child moves at exactly the wrong time there is not much you can do.

The product, in the report: Baby Stroller - Bugaboo Cameleon
Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller: 1. Safety belt has broken. Requested replacement two months ago and have still not received nor heard from them. The way the belt broke apparently has a high incident rate amongst consumers. The store where I purchased said six other people came in that week reporting the same breakage.
2. Safety belt loosens daily. When you tighten the straps they loosen on their own and you must tighten them again to ensure infant is safe. Also, this strollers safety belt is too large for a child from about 8 months and younger. My son is a big boy and the straps over his shoulders are not tight and always loosen anyway. The stroller is not safe. I can not sit him upright in the stroller as he falls forward and can not be securely strapped in. He also fell out of the straps when leaning forward but was caught.
3. We have had the safety straps taped together as we wait for Bugaboo to replace. We would prefer our money back as we feel the stroller is for older children and not infants/babies under twelve months based on the safety straps.

Emergency room Made Mar 8, 2012, sent to the company Mar 16, 2012, published by CPSC Mar 30, 2012
The product, in the report: Bugaboo Frog stroller. Black and silver
I bought a bugaboo frog in 2010 from Buy Buy Baby. On January 30 2012 I Went to the mall with him strapped into the seat. We went from the parking lot to go up to a small curb when I pulled back the whole seat ejected causing my baby to fall face first on to the concrete curb. His pacifier was cracked in half and he was gushing blood from his mouth. It was one of the most traumatic things I have ever experienced as a mother. The hospital could not stitch the inside of his mouth and his top baby teeth where shoved back up in his gums. His gums bled, where badly bruised, and swollen for several days. I sent bugaboo an email in January of my concern and I heard back from them promptly. I was told they would speak to corporate about replacing my stroller and get back with me with in a week . They also mentioned the frog was discontinued and that they felt I was not going to make a case for them. It is now march and I have no word from them and I don’t think they took my claim seriously I think this stroller should be recalled and parents should know before another baby or child is injured I am unhappy with Bugaboo and the way they are handling the situation. I now own a stroller that I will not use ever again due to legitimate safety concerns.

The product, in the report: Chameleon Stroller
The consumer says the straps are too loose. The manufacturer told her the child may be too small for the stroller. The consumer says her daughter is an average sized toddler at 22 months. She says that her daughter also fell out of the stroller. The manufacturer explained that she is not the first to complain about it but their are not enough reports for a recall. They suggested she install a safety pin. The consumer stopped using the stroller because her daughter can stand right up in it even with the straps fully tightened. The consumer feels the manufacturer is not taking the safety issue seriously.
UPDATE: The company has contacted consumer and is sending a new seat. They said no changes have been made to model since she bought hers. But in case her seat is defective. They also mentioned they have tried to explain to corp. in past but no changes made. Waiting on seat.
