No incident, no one hurt Made Jul 30, 2026, sent to the company Aug 18, 2026, published by CPSC Sep 2, 2026
The product, in the report: Wooden baby rattle, shaped with a larger circular head and a smaller handle. The circular head is painted red with a black inner rim and encloses a wooden dowel holding two smaller sliding wooden rings (one red, one white). The handle is natural wood featuring a printed red Wisconsin ‘W’ collegiate logo. The specific defect is a ~8mm solid red circular chip of paint/coating that detached from the red circular head. The product is part of a two-piece set marketed as free of BPA, phthalates, and formaldehyde.
A solid, circular piece of red paint/coating detached from a wooden baby rattle while it was being handled by my 6-month-old infant. Based on my measurements of the detached piece (referencing the provided image files, the solid chip is approximately 7 to 8 millimeters in diameter. This easily fits within the CPSC small parts test cylinder, presenting a clear aspiration, ingestion, and potential choking hazard for an infant, particularly given a 6-month-old’s subglottic airway diameter is roughly 5.0 to 6.0 mm.
