The product, in the report: Full product name is The First Years Simple Serve(TM) Fast Bottle Warmer. The UPC is 0-71463-01095-0

I purchased the “Simple Serve (TM) Fast Bottle Warmer” by The First Years on 10/19/2024. The bottle warmer comes with a vial with numbers 1 through 5 marked on it. The instructions indicate if wanting to warm a 4 oz bottle of thawed breast milk to fill the vial to the 4 line, pour the water in the warmer, then press the on button to turn it on. The device will turn off when the bottle is warm. I used the bottle warmer for 6 days and found the breastmilk in the bottle was way too hot to feed a baby when warmed based on instructions. Thankfully, I tested the milk temperature against my wrist before feeding my baby.

Further issues with this product are that the device does not turn off. The “power button” does not turn off. So if a caregiver is warming the bottle and determines it is warm enough and there is still water in the warmer, the device must be unplugged or it stays on, continuing to steam water. I unplugged the device but when I plug it back in to warm another bottle, it automatically turns on.

I consider this device defective and unsafe. The instructions are inaccurate and insufficient. Milk warmed according to direction is too hot to serve a baby. The device cannot be turned off with the power button. Any attempts to adjust the water amount to find a better quantity to warm the milk adequately resulted in me having a bottle warmer with remaining water in it that if I forgot to unplug, would continue to boil and emit hot steam.

I think this product should be recall due to the inadequate instructions as well as the inability to turn it off.

I purchased the product at the Augusta Maine Target store on 10/20/24 and returned it on 10/29/24 with a reason for the return as “Defective.”
