  1. No one hurt

Made Mar 27, 2024, sent to the company Apr 1, 2024, published by CPSC Apr 15, 2024

The product, in the report: Glass and Sprout Ware Sip & Straw, baby and toddler sippy cup, light blueberry color, glass, plastic and silicone construction marketed for ages 6+ months. https://greensprouts.com/products/glass-and-sprout-ware%C2%AE-sip-straw?variant=43141240717443

My 15 month old son was drinking out of a Glass and Sprout Ware Sip & Straw cup today, made by Green Sprouts, that is advertised as being safe for babies 6+ months old. He dropped the cup, as babies do constantly, then took a drink out of it. I noticed milk dripping from the bottom of the cup and took it away, and saw that the glass liner inside the plastic outer coating was broken into sharp shards. My son was using the sippy cup as it was intended and we are not sure if there are any injuries yet from ingesting slivers of glass yet or now. We have to watch him for symptoms of coughing, vomiting, and blood in his stool, and if there is he needs to go to the emergency room likely for emergency surgery to remove any shards and to stop internal bleeding. The pediatrician was contacted immediately and gave instructions on what symptoms to look for, and what to do if any of the symptoms show up.

The product, in the report: Stainless steel water bottle

    Choking Hazard

Stainless steel water bottle distributed by iPlay under the Green Sprouts brand (see link below). Product is marketed for use by infants and toddlers and is available from many retailers.

Water bottle has a push/pull valve at the top like a traditional water bottle, however in this case it is actually a silicone rubber stopper that can be pulled all the way out with a slightly harder tug, e.g. for cleaning. It’s sufficiently easy to pull out that my 23 month old did so with his teeth almost immediately.

The stopper itself is clearly a choking hazard -- about 1-1/2” long, 1” around at it’s widest part, overall about 5/8” diameter, and made of a compressible material (silicone rubber). Ironically it’s also designed to be the part that a 1-3 year old is supposed to put in their mouths and pull on to open the bottle.
