The product, in the report: CHILD TOP OF STEPS SAFETY GATE

    Manufacture Date: 3/1/2010

    Model #: 4232052

: I PURCHASED 3 SECURE STEP TOP OF STAIRS GATES. Manufactured by Evenflo co. There is a “swing control Clip” that snaps onto the gate. The purpose of this clip is to allow the gate to open in only one direction and stop the gate from opening in the other direction, which is especially important when the gate is installed at the top of a stairway, where you would not want the gate to swing open over the stairs, as this could result, in the case of the gate being psuhed open, of a child going puhing up against the gate, the gate opening out over the stairs, and the child falling down the stairs. The clip has given way and broken on more that one occassion as the gate was being closed, thus causing the gate to not close securely, but rather to open over the stairs, thus causing a potential hazard of a child tumbling down the steps. I have notified the company and they have sent me replacement clips, which i installed on the gate. However, the problem has recurred a few times. I find the gates to be of a design which has the potential for an accident to happen. I ask that you look into this matter. i can provide you with a broken clip and furhter information, if you desire. Thanks
