The product, in the report: Safety 1st baby gate

After a short time of having this gate....The hinges that hold the gate to the wall broke. :/ now I am not able to use this product at all. I purchased this product because it was highly recommended by multiple people and it truly is an awesome gate but the hinges were cheaply made.

    Safety Concern

    http://www.wag.com/dog/p/safety-1st-baby-n-pet-gate-33419

This gate looks to me like an incredibly serious potential for choking hazard for a crawling baby...Get the baby head completely through the cat head opening and then lower into the neck part to try to push the body through- In just a few minutes of being stuck and struggling, a baby may be too tired to hold their neck up and gravity could cause them to choke to death. As a person who has witnessed plenty of toddlers and small children get their heads stuck railing spindles, I can’t believe this would pass safety inspection as a baby gate.

Has the Consumer Product Safety organization investigated this product and deemed it safe?

The product, in the report: Safety 1st - Perfect Fit Gate Here is the info that is printed on the side of the gate: Rev 4/02 09 10 12 KR No 41824

We purchased two of these gates end of 2009. We hardware-mounted these gates. Both have had broken hinges due to normal use. These gates are meant to be on top of stairs - luckily ours were not.

I looked online to find a recall, none obviously. I found several other reviews on Amazon.com that complained of the same issue - broken hinges.

The incident date below is the date the latest set of hinges broke.

Alarm Security Gate By Safety1st. My son had stuck in his throat 1 of the small hardware bo;ts/screws. 911 to Hospital where is was pushed into his troat by EMT on way to ER. my 3 yr old spent overnight on watch to make sure he poop it out or he would have surgery. my 14 month old has also picked them up before i realized they have fall in out again. i just brought the gates end of july 2011 and now have removed them as being unsafe. why would a smaller then a penny size be able to be on a baby/childs gate.

it comes with a set of 4 screws/bolts, which 1 screw is longer then the other smaller like penny size. they keep falling/coming lose everyday on ALL 3 of the gates i have, i am always tighting them.
