No one hurt Made Jul 2, 2026, sent to the company Jul 8, 2026, published by CPSC Jul 22, 2026
The product, in the report: Regalo International (Manufacturer) Model #1340 - Regalo 4-in-1 Super Wide Gate and Play Yard
While my infant was holding onto the Regalo 2-in-1 Super Wide Gate and Fence, the plastic structural hinges completely broke. The mechanical failure caused the metal safety bars to dislodge during the collapse. As the gate fell, the shifting bars created an immediate entrapment hazard, narrowly missing going directly around my baby’s head and neck, risking severe injury, strangulation, or suffocation.

No incident, no one hurt Made Dec 4, 2025, sent to the company Dec 9, 2025, published by CPSC Jan 5, 2026
The product, in the report: Regalo 194-Inch Super Wide Adjustable Baby Gate and Play Yard, Black, 2-in-1, Bonus Kit, Includes 4 Pack of Wall Mounts
The gate was installed in our home at the top of a staircase blocking stairs. While my mother was briefly watching my infant, the entire gate door/frame detached and fell off the metal pole it was attached to, despite being properly mounted. This created an immediate fall hazard with potential for serious injury or death to a child if they had been near the stairs at that moment.

No one hurt Made Jun 23, 2025, sent to the company Jun 26, 2025, published by CPSC Jul 11, 2025
The product, in the report: Item Description: Regalo Retractable Baby Gate, Expands up to 50” Wide, Includes Wall Mounts. Batch Number: NA R25717 Manufacture Date: MAR-2025 Model Number: 1850 G
We purchased a Regalo baby gate from Walmart and installed it per the instructions it came with. We even double and triple checked to make sure it was right. We had the gate in use, keeping our 17 month old son in his room while I was cleaning. He was within my line of sight. All he did was push on the gate and it popped right out of the brackets that were made to hold it and the plastic tube that the mesh gate rolls into hit my son in the head. Thankfully, my son is okay. But if this had been a child who was medically compromised, this couldve been detrimental. Or if this had hit him in his eye or if he were smaller and it had hit him in his soft spot. You see where Im going with this. My son is okay. But that may not be the case for another baby. This product does not need to be marketed as safe for children. After my husband came home, he took a look at it and found that when the gate is in use, it does pop right out of the sockets if any amount of pressure is applied. This not only defeats the purpose of the product but also makes this product unsafe for children.

No one hurt Made Nov 15, 2024, sent to the company Nov 20, 2024, published by CPSC Dec 5, 2024
The product, in the report: Regalo pressure mounted safety gate for Child age 6 to 36 Months
The Regalo child safety gate pivot broke allowing the gate section to detach from the fixed section. This is due to a weld at the top hinge bracket that shows poor penetration of the steel bracket. A second gate failed at the same place about 4 months earlier. This is a manufacturing defect easily recognized by the naked eye. The weld is on only one side of the bracket and was intended to fuse both sides. The single side then fatigues and fails with normal use.

The product, in the report: Regalo Model 1850 G baby safety gate
Regalo Model 1850 G baby safety gate broke less than 2 weeks after I bought it
I bought this (Model 1850 G) at Lowes on September 3 and installed it to keep my dog out of the kitchen. The installation went smoothly and I got it to work. When I came back from shopping today, I found a rectangular piece of plastic on the floor and discovered that the lower mounting bracket for the roll side had broken. This is therefore not something I would rely on to keep a child or pet from going somewhere he/she should not. A metal bracket might have been more durable (does not constitute engineering advice) but the bottom line is that I paid close to $40 (more with sales tax) and spent time on installation for something that did not last even 2 weeks.
Also, the latch side does not seem secure and it seems that a child could easily pull it out to open the gate. I inserted a 1/2 inch wooden dowel to prevent this, but this also does not speak well for security.

The product, in the report: Regalo Extra Wide Walk Through Safety Gate Model #1161 Batch#: LOT NO: YC R19206 MFG DATE: NOV - 2021
The regalo baby gate (Extra Wide Walk Through Safety Gate Model #1161) was installed by wall mounting into the walls at the top of the stairs. Our daughter (21 months) pushed against the closed gate and the door flung open (latch failed) and fell down the flight of stairs. I was near her at the top of the stairs when I heard the latch release and saw her fall forward through the then opened door. She had a bruise over her eye as a result of the fall. Wanted to report immediately to prevent other children from suffering injuries due to the failed product.

Manufactured August 2022
13 month old toddler shook the gate a couple of times and the tightening mechanism unscrewed, allowing the panels to be easily separated. She can also pull the gate apart despite it being assembled according to the instructions. We have to continually tighten the mechanism if she’s standing at the gate often. At least every couple days.
There are multiple Amazon reviews reporting the same issue, including one where a child got her finger stuck and the fire department had respond to help the child.

The gate broke apart when my infant (17 months) son grabbed it, causing him to fall with the portion that broke off. I contacted Regalo, and she said it is not defective, and refused to help aside from telling me to purchase new parts.

The product, in the report: Regalo super wide baby gate (it’s a metal play pen with plastic fasteners)
Hello, I wanted to report a baby gate made by regalo that my 18 month old managed to break and it caught her neck between the bars. The cheap plastic broke and the sharp edge could have pierced her neck. I kept the gate and have images of the break. I am attaching the link to the product here. I just submitted a product review on Amazon as well.

We have a Regalo Top of Stairs Baby Gate at the top of our stairs. Hospital admission Made Jun 18, 2020, sent to the company Jul 17, 2020, published by CPSC Jul 31, 2020
The product, in the report: Regalo Baby Gate Model Wooden Expandable Safety Gate - Model# 0720 Pressure mounted wooden expandable baby gate.
Less than 4 months ago, we bought from Target the pressure mounted wooden expandable baby gate from the brand Regalo. The baby gate doesn’t require assembly, it comes completely ready to use. It has 4 plastic brackets, each with 1 screw. One of the brackets came loose and our 1-year-old baby swallowed the screw, which is very sharp.
My husband was about 3 feet away from our son, but he didn’t realize what he was playing with until our son started to choke. I ran when I heard the choking noise. My husband and I went through a horrific experience trying to help our son to breath, he was chocking severely and stopped breathing. I turned him belly-down and hit his back several times. Luckily he finally got the screw down and started to breath. We then saw the plastic bracket on the floor and realized what it was. We went to check the baby gate to find it was missing a bracket and screw. We knew right then what our son had just swallowed.
We took him to the emergency room at [REDACTED] Los Angeles. There he had the first of many x-rays. The pediatrician specialist and surgeons were at [REDACTED] Fontana, which is about 1 hour away, so they sent us there in an ambulance. After a very long process and a lot of waiting and x-rays, the surgeons decided that the screw was too far down and could not be removed through the throat. We were admitted to the hospital for observation so the doctors could monitor the progress of the screw through his digestive system. On the next day the surgeons came to the conclusion that the screw was stuck in the large intestine and needed to be surgically removed.
Our son had the surgery and spent 1 more night at the hospital. He is now recovering well and we are so thankful for the surgeons at [REDACTED]. They did a great operation.
The Regalo baby gate should NOT have had a loose screw after such a short period of time - or ever! We always used the gate as intended by the manufacturer, so we are severely disappointed that the product could have failed after such a short period of use. We have been very traumatized and still healing from this experience. This product should not be available to anyone at this point. We don’t want the same to happen to others. It should be recalled.

No one hurt Made Jul 31, 2019, sent to the company Aug 13, 2019, published by CPSC Sep 3, 2019
The product, in the report: Regalo 192-Inch Super Wide Adjustable Baby Gate and Play Yard, 4-In Baby gate/fence, sold as 8 panels including one with a hinged gate (which we have previously ziptied shut because it can be trivially forced open by toddlers). Welded metal tubing panels coupled together by “permanently”-affixed plastic couplers at all 4 corners, and able to be attached to walls or assembled as a freestanding play pen.
I had stepped into the kitchen (several feet away) for a moment when I heard one of my twin toddlers and it seemed they were too close to me through the dining room. I came around the corner and one of my toddlers was standing there in the dining room (to which they do not have access) and behind him our Regalo baby gate/fence was in pieces.
Turns out, the metal sections are essentially just friction-fit (with a detente rather than a full catch) into the plastic segment couplers. Further, we have 2 of the 8-section gate assemblies, and at least 3 of the “welds” (which they’re obviously not) between the vertical and horizontal metal pieces have failed, leaving movable vertical members and chisel-sharp “weld” material. Third, one of the “internal” pieces of the upper panel junction has had its coupling part (a small circle that fits inside of the adjacent panel’s coupler to connect the two) snap off as it is only attached via an unnecessarily skinny plastic neck.
This represents two gross engineering failures and one failure (on repeat) due to extremely poor quality control and workmanship. Obviously there are not ISO quality controls in place to ensure that weldments are consistently having proper joint fusion, the plastic-to-metal joints in the panel assemblies are designed to prioritize cost over reliability, and the design of the plastic panel couplers themselves is being done by someone with little or no engineering knowledge including the ability to reduce stress risers and weak points in such a part.
I have since used high-strength zipties and sheet metal screws to turn the remaining panels into what should be a reliable fence for our toddlers, although the possibility of a failed plastic connector still exists, but I think that may have been a secondary failure after the panels were allowed to move out of alignment due to the plastic-to-metal joints coming apart elsewhere.

The product, in the report: Regalo baby gate. White metal. Regalo “easy step walk through gate” fits 29” to 39” wide. I have 5 of them. All 5 had the exact same problem.
I recently purchased multiple Regalo brand baby gates for my home as my son is growing more curious and gets into areas of my home that may be unsafe. One month ago I noticed a small white plastic piece had broken off the baby gate and represented a choking hazard to my son. I was upset but chalked it up to a defect in only one baby gate as the others seemed fine. However today my son pulled the identical piece off another Regalo baby gate in my home. I went around my home and removed this piece off all the Regalo baby gates in my home and saved them. The piece came off very easily. I am very concerned for my own son and others children as this piece comes off very easily and is the perfect size for a choking hazard. Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

The product, in the report: Baby gate
Caller is reporting that the baby gates that was purchased in 2017 both having identical numbers displayed the same design flaw. She stated that her 2 year old grandchild was able to open the gate and would have fallen if no one was present. Caller stated that label warning indicated that it should be used for 6 months through 36 months old child.
The manufacturer was contacted and she was informed that they were sorry for the incident but that they were unable to assist her. She stated that she advised the company that she would report it to the agency.
Caller feels that these gates are a fall hazard and should be reported.

The product, in the report: The bottom baby gate was a Regalo walkthrough barrier. The top gate was plastic and flexible at the bottom.
The decedent was a 2-year-old male whose mother put him in bed for a nap. He had a habit of climbing several items and the parents used two baby gates, stacked, in the bedroom door way. Several minutes later the mother went to check on decedent and found him not responsive with his head/neck edged between the two gates. The top gate was flexible enough to get his head through it. The decedent was resuscitated but later later at a hospital.

The product, in the report: Regalo 192-Inch Super Wide Gate and Play Yard, White. Model 1360
I was using the regalo safety gate to block my son from getting into our kitchen I had previously used it on a bigger space but had removed several panels to fit the smaller area. Per their description on Amazon this should be able to be done safely for a custom fit. However my 23 month old son was able to loosen one of the screws that connects the panels, upon doing so the bar immediately falls out leaving a hole where the screw should go. My son stuck his finger in the hole and we tried to get it back out but after trying butter and [petroleum jelly] were unable to. We called the fire department, they came out and even with ring cutter were unable to remove the gate. Instead they used a bolt cutter to cut the gate off so that we could get to the hospital to have the remaining piece removed. When we arrived at the hospital they had to use a saw that is used to remove casts to cut spaces into the gate and pry it open with surgical pincers while one of the nurses pulled to remove his finger from the gate. My son was traumatized by that point he had been pinched and cut a little during the removal and his Finger was swollen.

The product, in the report: Regalo Super Wide Baby Gate and Play Yard - Model #1350 White multi-panel baby gate designed to use in openings up to 192” with selection of the number of panels, or to be used as an enclosed play yard.
We purchased the Regalo Super Wide Baby Gate and Play Yard - Model #1350 because it was the only gate we could find that was large enough for the opening we needed to block off. It seemed fine at first. However, once my daughters got to be big enough, they could push it open with the lock still engaged. I eventually figured out that it has a terrible design flaw. The rotating latch on the door that overlaps the vertical bar to hold it shut doesn’t overlap far enough. So if the entire gate isn’t perfectly straight or very close to it, then it “shortens” the length the latch overlaps, and with enough force, it will just push open. My girls are only 18 and 20 pounds, so they aren’t that big and strong yet. And because this gate doesn’t have a way to precisely adjust length, unless you just happen to have an opening that is the exact size of however many of the panels you are using, the joints will have to bend and shorten the length of the overlapping latch.

The product, in the report: Baby Gate
My son and daughter-in-law installed a baby gate between their living room and kitchen. After changing my grandson’s diaper in their living room, I started to walk through the baby gate into the kitchen while I was holding my grandson. I tripped over the bar at the bottom of the gate. I turned my body so that my grandson would not be harmed as I fell, but, in so doing, I landed on my left knee and broke my kneecap in three places. This injury is quite painful, and will take several months to recover. I am now under the care of an orthopedic surgeon.
Since this accident, I have spoken with several people who have also tripped over similar gates with a bar at the bottom.
This product should be removed from the market place as being completely unsafe in its basic design.

The product, in the report: Regalo Extra Tall Top of Stair Gate, White Expands to fit openings 32” - 53” wide and is 35” tall Adapter kit included JPMA certified ASIN: B003VNKLIE
The Regalo Extra Tall Top of Stair Gate was being used as a top of the stairs baby gate in our home. About 1 month ago one of the plastic pins snapped in half and the gate was no longer secure on all four sides. I contacted Regalo and was told they would mail me a new pin. Following this conversation, another pin on the gate broke and the gate came crashing down. I contacted Regalo again and spoke to [REDACTED]. He explained that it could take up to a couple of months for them to send me the replacement parts (same plastic pin that broke) and this type of breaking has happened to other customers.
Both of these incidents could have resulted in a serious injury or death if a child was near the gate when it failed. I purchased this gate through Amazon. After my incident I went on amazon.com to see if there were other people having the same trouble. There were more than six other incidents mimicking mine that people reported on amazon.com.

The product, in the report: Easy Open Extra Wide Metal Walk-Through Gate. White. 29.5-34” L x 1½” W x 31” H
This report concerns a safety gate, the Regalo Easy Open Extra Wide Gate. The part of the gate that swings open and then when closed, latches onto the other side, has a tube on it. There is a small grey plug that fits into the tube that was not secured. It fell out and is a choking hazard. I found it on the ground by the gate. Glad I found it before our dog or baby did!

The product, in the report: Baby Gate, EZ Open Walk Thru Gate
The consumer says the unit is marketed as a top of the stairs gate. He says the point where it connects to the wall is too flimzy. With basic hand pressure he can move the gate an inch or two in either direction. He says with any amount of applied force, the bolts can fly right off. He returned the product to the retailer.

The product, in the report: Regalo Easy Open Super Wide Walk Thru Gate - White Available at this page: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001OC5UNK
The problem is with a baby gate made by Regalo, the Regalo Easy Open Super Wide Walk Thru Gate (Amazon product page here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001OC5UNK). The problem is a small part that can come loose that is a choking hazard for babies.
The gate is constructed of metal tubes. The latching mechanism is a narrow tube that retracts inside the larger tube forming the top of the gate. There is a small circular plug, about 3/8 of an inch in diameter and 3/8 of an inch long, that fits inside the interior tube.
Last week, we discovered this plug in the hand by our 10-month old baby, who was sitting next to the gate. At first we did not understand what it was or where it had come from. Then we came to believe that it had come from the baby gate, specifically that it had popped out of the gate latch. We tried putting it back in and it fit very firmly; we then didn’t understand how it had come out, since it would be beyond a baby’s ability. After some experimentation, we found that when the latch is pulled open in a certain way, the edge of the plug can catch on the edge of the exterior tube, popping it out easily.
We have two of these gates, and did not find the plug in the other one. The plug is the same color and appears to be the same plastic from which the various other tube caps on the gate are made. The gates do not appear to have any other problems, and we are still using them both (with the plug removed, of course.)
