The product, in the report: This is a baby gate designed to be installed at the top of the stairwell to prevent children from falling down the stairs.
Last night I purchased a North State Industries, stairway swing gate. Model #4630. This product is designed to be installed at the top of a stairwell to prevent children from accidentally falling down the stairs case. The problem is in the latching mechanism. It simply does not work. It is of very chancy construction and does not work as designed. It is designed to be I latched by pushing it down with your thumb on a spring loaded tab. The problem is in the spring loaded return. The latch does not return to the locked position leaving the gate unmatched and able to be opened accidentally. I have not experienced an incident because I identified the problem during installation.
