No incident, no one hurt Made Aug 29, 2025, sent to the company Sep 3, 2025, published by CPSC Sep 17, 2025
The product, in the report: Baby gate White / Aluminum https://cardinalgates.com/shop/baby-gates/top-of-stairs/stairway-special-safety-gate-model-ss-30/ width is adjustable 27” 42.5” Height 29.5” Bar Spacing
The hinge on our baby gate at the top of a flight of stairs detached. The eyehook screws into the gate. The part that receives the screw is press-fitted into the aluminum gate. It must work itself loose over time. This seems like an extremely poor design.
I (the parent) noticed it was detached this morning, so nobody got hurt thankfully. My two children could have fallen down 16 stairs if they leaned on this.
The gates were installed around December 2023. They are opened and closed several times every day. Our kids don’t really interact with it much, so it hasn’t received any abnormal abuse.

No one hurt Made Aug 21, 2025, sent to the company Aug 26, 2025, published by CPSC Sep 10, 2025
The product, in the report: Cardinal Gates SS30 Stairway Special Baby Gate for Top of Stairs - Adjustable Indoor Dog Gate - Aluminum Metal Safety Gate for Kids & Pets - 27 to 42.5 Inches Wide - White - USA Based Company
Child gate has potential for toddler to get finger stuck in metal hole when gate is opened. My child stuck their finger in the hole that is part of the wall mounted locking mechanism as they were passing through. Luckily finger was not permanently stuck, but the potential is there.
