The product, in the report: Edge Trimmer

Caller stated that he experienced similar problems as recall 25-334. Caller stated that when he heard of the recall, he contacted the company about the product, and they informed him that his model was not included in the recall. While the product disengaged, he was putting it after use and holding it with one hand and placing the plastic cover over it when it activated and lacerated two of his right ring and middle fingers which were also fractured. He went to an urgent center and received 14 stiches and splint for his fingers. Caller stated that he contacted the manufacturer several times and they informed him that someone would contact him. No one has contacted him as yet.

On Thursday, April 2, 2026, I was cleaning up my yard with my granddaughter. We were finished and I was putting away all of the tools. I was holding the Ryobi hedge trimmer with my left hand and getting ready to put the sheath on when the hedge trimmer activated, severely lacerating the middle and ring fingers on my right hand. I immediately covered them with a towel and my wife (and granddaughter) took me to an Urgent Care facility. Attached is the Office Visit report. I received about 14 stitches total in both fingers. X-rays indicated two fractures of those fingers.

The attending physician told me to see a hand surgeon to evaluate the extent of my injuries. Coincidently, I had an appointment schedules for [REDACTED] for a potential carpel tunnel surgery. I met with [REDACTED]. He performed X-rays and inspected the wounds. He gave me a care protocol and scheduled a follow-up on April 13. I met with him again on April 13, and the stitches were removed. I have to wear a finger splint for the next 5 weeks, limiting what I can do including difficulty eating, like cutting food, household tasks and golf. Attached are copies of the notes from those visits.

Last year, I received a recall notice email from The Home Depot, dated Jun 24, 2025 regarding a recall of this hedge trimmer. Included in the email was a link to a website to check the model and serial number to determine of if mine was recalled. It was not included. This is the nameplate.

After the laceration on April 2, I rechecked to make sure the hedge trimmer was included; it was not.

On April 6, I called the a number on the email notice ([REDACTED]). I talked to a representative and described the accident and my injuries. The person took down all of my information, apologized and told me that I was being transferred to another number ([REDACTED]). I went back over all of the details of my injury. I told this person that I would not use the hedge trimmer again and that I wanted a replacement. I told the person that I had checked the serial number and it was not included in the original email and that they may have a bigger problem. The person told me that a Safety Person would call me for further details. I have not received a follow-up call. It has been 13 days as of this report date. Next Steps: - I would like to discuss the accident with a Ryobi Safety Representative to describe the events and my concern of a larger issue than was originally reported. - Obtain a replacement hedge trimmer (I will no longer use the one that injured me). - Decide what further actions are necessary to put this accident behind me.

The product, in the report: Ryobi P2000 12” String Trimmer/Edger - Blue and Black and Silver with some Yellow-Orange.

Ryobi Model: P2000 12” String Trimmer/Edger Serial Number: BML 0631341 I have a Ryobi P2000 12” String Trimmer. It was purchased at Home Depot on 05/31/2008 so I have gotten good life out of it but recently my grandson was trimming for me and discovered a serious problem. He used 2 batteries to get through the trimming job. The 2nd one got very hot and melted the plastic surrounding the positive contact and then he inspected the 1st battery he used and found that it was slightly melted at the positive contact. The positive contact inside the socket of the Trimmer was brown and the negative was normal silver color. I want to let someone know about this so that nobody gets hurt by the overheating. I can’t find out on the Home Depot site anyone to contact and no links on the Ryobitools site really relate to reporting incidents like this. I have stopped using those two batteries, my P2000 Trimmer, and my P125 6 port charger.

The product, in the report: Ryobi “Expandit” string gas trimmer

I was using my Ryobi gas string trimmer and noticed that fuel was leaking from the fuel tank at the point where the fuel lines enter the tank. Fearing that the fuel would catch fire and possibly explode, I immediately stopped using it. This has happened before, but I just now located the source of the fuel leak. I believe this is a defective product because there is no washer or other seal to prevent fuel from leaking. This product should be recalled. It is a Ryobi gas string trimmer model number SS26 - Ry28045.

The product, in the report: Ryobi 2 cyle gas trimmer, commercial

I was using a RYOBI 2 cycle gas trimmer with bush trimming attachment. The plastic fuel line from the gas tank to the engine disconnected and the gas leaked out and caught fire. My right hand had a glove which caught fire (which was holding the trimmer on the handle next to the fuel tank), the right side of my short sleeve shirt caught fire, and my right arm sustained second degree burns.

I was able to put fire out with fire extinguisher, and removed glove and shirt before I sustained more extensive burns.

This fuel line disconnecting was a recurrent problem. Before this occurred, I had just filled the tank and carefully re-attached the fuel line. However, there is no clamp that secures the plastic fuel line to the male receptacle on the engine that would help prevent this small plastic fuel line from disconnecting.

Parts come off the flywheel/rotor assembly and create the equivalent of a small fragmentation grenade, posing a serious risk of injury or even death to the operator. This has happened to both the original flywheel and the replacement installed approximately two years ago. I have already submitted this complaint and was advised by a person named [REDACTED] at [REDACTED] that she would be sending me more information to my email address. The product, in the report: Ryobi String Trimmer SS30 model # RY30041A

I pulled out my Ryobi [weed trimmer] to use this spring. Filled it with gas and tried to start it. After 3 pulls the thing caught fire! Lucky I was outside and near a hose after inspecting it I noticed the fuel lines used are not of fuel grade quality. I had to purchase a new fuel take to replace the lines and inspecting the old and new tanks neither are very safe, there are just holes drilled into the tank for the fuel lines to come out. No seal and they can leak fuel at any givin time. After getting it running and cutting weeds I smelled gas and it caught fire again this time the fuel primer bulb cracked leaking gas on the hor cylinder head causing fire. The primer bulb does not appear to be of fuel grade material either and to replace it Ryobi says I have to buy a brand new carb.

While trying to start my Ryobi Touch Start Model RY29550 electric start gasoline powered string trimmer, the fuel line crumbled spilling fuel down the engine and on to my hands. Fortunately this was a cold start and not a restart while trimming, so nothing caught fire.

It is still an extreme fire risk as the fuel line material is damaged by the fuel and could fail even while the engine is hot and running. The fuel line material should be changed to something not effected by gasoline or ethanol blends to prevent fire risks.

The product, in the report: Universal power head for string trimmer, edger, blower, etc. AC electric powered, plugs into a standard extension cord.

I was using the power head with the edger attachment. During use, the handle slipped and rotated, I slipped and lost my balance, and the out of control edger ran over my foot. Upon further inspection, it appears that the threads on the plastic nut used to secure the handle stripped out, and failed to keep the handle tight.
