The product, in the report: Greenworks GW 80V 17” String Trimmer yard tool (Model #STB415)
A significant safety concern with the Greenworks String Trimmer (Model #STB415) creating a very sharp edge from very thin trimmer head causing slice - injury to fingers/thumb while rethreading string into trimmer. Purchased from Costco on April 25, 2024. With light residential use once a week around the edge of yard for 3 months, one month of time owned it was not even in used while traveling during those weeks) so roughly 12 times of use. The bottom thin bump head plastic to release the string gets a very sharp by taping the head required to release extra line. The thin edge with normal use tapping to release the string creates a knife type edge with minor use of wear. While rotating the head as necessary to thread a new line in a much shorter time for normal wear and tear than would be expected on a $250 grass string trimmer. We were very concerned on the saftety of this product but had not thought to report it until after calling Greenworks where I received very rude customer service, more than an hour on hold waiting to speak to a supervisor who refused from two different reps called into ([REDACTED] and [REDACTED]) with a complete disregard to even asking about the safety concern we were calling in to report. I have never experienced any company with such a blatant disregard to even knowing what the concern is and refusal to even take the call so we felt compelled to report it due to our feeling Greenworks is being negligent when the plastic part should be manufactured thicker or with edge that will not create a knife like edge right where it is required to rotate to rethread. This is our first time ever reporting a product safety concern and Greenworks refusal to even hear about what appears far less than normal wear and tear to a reasonable safety concern and caused cut and bleeding we felt it needed to be reported.
I contacted Greenworks on 9/16/24@ 12:44pm MST. Spoke to [REDACTED]. After a long hold while she talked with a supervisor was advised Greenworks does not have any replacement part in stock and that I could just wait until later in the year or find somewhere else to get the part and a complete, blatant disregard to any safety concern with very sharp plastic the part creates when thin plastic wears down in as little as 12 uses that cut thumb. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she was very rude, refused to transfer me when asked twice to discuss as I believe is an important safely concern they should be made aware of and addressed. She advised she would disconnect the call for my saying that I have a legit safety and legal concern I would like to discuss with a supervisor. 9/16/24 1:15pm MST Called back after being rudely hung up on and was placed on hold for another 38 minutes. After [REDACTED] advised a manager was not willing to discuss any safety issue with product and transferred me to a generic voicemail. After Greenwork’s refusal and blatant disregard to even know about their product safety concern with poor business integrity of not taking or having management call back I decided this concern needed to be reported. Safety concern is on the low quality, think plastic that with minor use becomes very sharp when worn out in less than 12-13 times of use.

The product, in the report: Cordless powered lawn string trimmer, GreenWorks model STF307
I purchased a Greenworks cordless string trimmer in new condition from eBay. The box was unopened, everything inside had never been used (all bags sealed with original tape; all items unassembled and no dirt; no parts bags opened). The string trimmer is battery operated and comes with a battery and a battery charging base. The charging base has a manufacturing defect in the electrical plug causing neutral prong to be askew and pointing out at an odd angle. This was not bent after manufacturing but was bent first and then molded into the black plastic of a standard two-prong electrical plug.
I contacted GreenWorks customer service and they refused to replace it since I bought it on eBay. I explained it could be a safety issue and that the item was CSA listed and that they should take this opportunity to understand whether other consumers were affected. The tech refused and again stated their policy that they would not replace the dangerous part.
I did not attempt to plug it into my outlet but other customers may have tried to use it anyway which could represent an electrical safety issue (such as a short circuit) which could cause electroshock to a person or fire damage to property.
