The product, in the report: submersible pump

This caller is reporting a submersible pump used for clearing water from basements or pools that he purchased from retailer March 18th, 2016 in New York State, NY.

He opened the package but when he began pulling the pump from the box he noticed that the edges were so sharp that it felt like a razor knife and he almost cut his fingers.

He filed the sharp edges on his unit but is reporting this incident to inform the public of this laceration hazard stating that if his son had no been sitting at the angle to notice that the edges of the bottom of this unit were like razors then the caller would have injured his fingers and possibly his hand by laceration.

There are no injuries being reported.

The caller tried to contact the manufacturing but could not locate a phone number.

The product, in the report: Gasoline powered water pump

I purchased a Pacific Hydrostar gas powered 2” clear water pump from Harbor Freight Tools in Corpus Christi, Texas. I set it up according to manufacturer’s instructions (add oil, gasoline, prime pump, and start). I filled the gasoline tank with a quart of fuel, and started the pump. It ran fine for about 15 minutes and then quit. I checked the motor and then the gas tank, noting that it was empty. Puzzled, I refilled the tank, and started it again. It stopped again after ten or so minutes of operation. Again, the fuel tank was empty. I then realized the tank had a leak and fuel had spread across the surface of the water I was trying to pump out of our yard. I checked the tank and fuel lines for obvious leaks, but they run from beneath the tank to the carburetor without any area of access or observation. I could see an inline fuel filter but no obvious leaks. The engine exhaust is immediately adjacent to the carburetor/air filter assembly so I decided not to tinker with it any further out of fear of either a fire or explosion and returned the pump to the store for a refund. They were told both of the problem and this report.
