The product, in the report: Submersible Sump Pump Utilitech Pro KLH050 / 075 (1/2 Hp model) Purchased [REDACTED] from Lowes
I am writing to inform you, that there is a safety issue with the Lowes Utilitech submersible sump pump.
The pump exploded and caught fire. I heard a very load explosion type noise and could not find the source. A half hour later the smoke alarm went off and I found the sump pump to be on fire with a three inch flame and was put out with a fire extinguisher. The sump pit was full enough of water where the pump could have activated. The middle section of the pump was broken from the inside out for 360 degrees. The electrical wiring was blown off the pump. Photos available.
Application: The pump was used to pump water from a home iron filter. This filter is cycled every other day and discharges about 30-40 gallons per cycle. It uses soda ash which lowers the PH of the water (It does not use salt). The only other water source is from a dehumidifier. The pump was installed correctly including the vent hole. The pump has about a 8 ft head.
