The product, in the report: Drummond 63407 Harbor Freight Tools Water Pump; 40 PSI; ETVUS [REDACTED] 4009492; 120 VAC/10A; Item 63407; Serial Number 2720-37378
A water pump (under warranty) malfunctioned in my farm shed and scalded my arm with first, second and third degree burns, as diagnosed by a medical doctor. A Drummond 63407 Harbor Freight Tools water pump pressure switch failed (and some research shows this happens approx. 11% of the time), but the manufacturer has refused to make an insurance claim to pay me a settlement for my severe injuries (which could have disfigured or killed a child), which restricted my piano teaching income, damaged my property, or pay repair costs. This cheap made pump, the company owned by a Chinese company, is a danger to the American people; especially, children.
UPDATED ON 2/28/2023: [2nd and 3rd degree scalding burns from water and steam from malfunctioning water pump that scalded [REDACTED] June 16, [REDACTED]
UPDATED ON 4/27/2023: [The transfer from the pressure tank to the control switches somehow stuck the pump in an “on” position. The impeller heated the water in the chamber, and shear friction made very hot water.
The water pump demonstrated an Initial Break in Failure, or the early part of the Weibull Distribution Failure curve. This process most likely was Value Engineered to a point that it was no longer capable of a high performance or lengthy life cycle time before failure. Consequently, the early failure of a component which needs a redesign.
The motor drives the impeller, which pumps the water into the pressurized tank. The switch allows the motor to operate (switch on) when the tank pressure falls to 30 PSI and switch off at 50 PSI. The off switch did not engage, and the motor kept spinning the impeller and pumping water to “nowhere”. The hydrodynamic shear friction in the impeller housing caused the water to heat, and eventually boil. The boiling water formed a two phase system with one side water vapor and the other side boiling water. This spun around with the impeller in a very imbalanced process, and the pump assembly then shook until the boiling water was able to break free and the electric energy discontinued. In this final process, Ms. Hays was burned with first, second and third degree burns, as diagnosed by Brian D. Cooke, MD, Osawatomie, Kansas.
Eccentric dynamic load released boiling water under pressure.
The cut off switching apparatus failed, the churning friction in the impeller housing heated and boiled the water and partly turned the water into steam, a large miss balance in the impeller shook the unit, the pipe broke and boiling water was sprayed about.]
