  1. No one hurt

Made Oct 17, 2014, sent to the company Oct 27, 2014, published by CPSC Nov 10, 2014

The product, in the report: Water condensate pump Model CP-22 (Serial E 258186 )

my Water condensate pump Model CP-22 (Serial E 258186 ) caught on fire this morning at around 4.00 am at my home.

    - The unit was installed by licensed plumbers - (REDACTED) - The unit was installed right next to my Furnace and the Gas line feed (for the furnace) is located in the vicinity of this pump and has been operational for some time.

    - This morning at 4.00 am my home was filled with smoke and I was awoken by a fire alarm, I rushed to the basement to find flames shooting out from the top part of the Water pump

    - I immediately disconnected the power to the unit and extinguished the flames before removing the unit

    - My basement and possessions suffered smoke damage and I am going to have to hire a cleaning service to remedy this

    - In addition, I will have to hire a plumber to install a new unit

I am very deeply concerned that this product poses a fire risk to other homeowners, as this almost caused a tragedy in my home and there was no indication of product failing nor did anyone tamper with the device. I am only fortunate that I was not traveling for work and was home to control the fire before it spread to the rest of my home, and caused any serious injury to my family and me not to mention my neighbors with a possible Gas line breach from the fire.
