The product, in the report: Troy-bilt TB18OB Leaf Blower
While using our Troy-Bilt leaf blower (TB18OB), it suddenly exploded without warning, sending shards of plastic flying through the air. This was a very unexpected and dangerous incident. Afterward, I researched the model online and discovered multiple reports of similar malfunctions. I also found the same issue mentioned on [REDACTED]. Unfortunately, because the serial number was unreadable after the explosion, my concern was dismissed, and I was told a replacement would not be issued, that it was probably out of warranty anyway. Even if one were offered, I would be hesitant to use another product from Troy Built, given their failure to acknowledge and address a clearly recurring safety hazard.

The product, in the report: Troy-Bilt Jet Leaf Blower 41BS2MEB766 TB2MB S/N 1FDSSDH1003
I own a Troy-Bilt Jet Leaf Blower. The blower stopped running after developing a sever rattle in the fan area. I took the fan cover off and discovered a broken Grade 5 bolt in the fan casing. The bolt had broken in the thread area and the other part of the broken bolt was in the hex adapter for the fan. Had the broken part not jammed the fan, the RPM that the fan blade was rotating could have caused a catastrophic Incident of flying debris. My contact to the Troy-Bilt customer service individual resulted in being told to buy replacement parts or take it to a service provider. There was no concern on the individuals part as to why the part failed. I have the broken part and pictures of the bolt.

The product, in the report: Troy Bilt TB 189 B leaf blower
I acquired this leaf blower as an item I received for cleaning out a neighbors garage in 2015. I have used it regularly on my driveway and street in front of my home along with the back patio. Today I cut my front lawn as usual, I edged and trimmed afterwards. Then I blow off the driveway and street gutter. I completed the driveway and all of the gutter except the last 2 feet or so. As I was swinging the blower in a sweeping motion left to right and back left again as I always do, it seemed to explode in my hands. It sounded like a large handgun going off in my hand. Then I immediately felt this intense pain in my leg. I would say it felt like I was shot, but I never have been, but I imagine it is pretty close to the feeling. I dropped the blower immediately on the ground and looked at my leg, then around to see if anybody else had heard the noise. A neighbor was out with her kids in a small pool and was looking at me as if she heard the noise. The blower was still powered up and I immediately went to the cord and unplugged it, not sure exactly what had happened. I looked for smoke from an electrical fire, but there was none. I then picked up the blower and a piece came sliding out a large hole in the side of the casing, and something else was rattling around inside the blower. There was another large hole on the other side of the casing. I had no idea what had just happened, but now my leg was really hurting. I couldn’t understand why the thing exploded the way it did. I went in and examined my leg. A large welt started to form on my upper thigh. The welt was about the same height as my testicles. If this machine would have exploded one second sooner, the injury would have directly been to my testicles. I cannot imagine what that would have felt like, but I guess I would probably not be here typing this report, as it probably would have sent me to the E.R, at the hospital! I am still thanking God that piece of “plastic shrapnel” did not neuter me! Although I may not be in physical pain shock, the thought keeps going through my mind of how close that came to my nuts, I still can’t believe that machine exploded with such force and shattered two large holes on either side of the casing. The injury could have been devastating in just a split second. I came in and had to make dinner and feed our dogs and took a short nap. My leg had a large welt and a bruise on my thigh. I took several pictures after dinner. I have used that blower for years and never heard of a recall, but I did not buy it either.Nor did I know it was made in China. I had several other items from the garage I cleaned out and noticed they were from China and I sold those in a garage sale for just that reason. I had no idea this blower was on recall, or it was even made in China. I tend to stay away from cheap products like this and now I will need to examine the rest of my tools for recalls and where they are manufactured. I am still in shock as to how close that came to blowing up my testicles and what that pain would have been like? It gives me chills!

The product, in the report: Troy-Bilt leaf blower TB197BV, 69dB(A)
I had been using the blower for about 15 minutes clearing my driveway of acorns. I turned blower off and moved under my house (it is built up one story on pilings) to blow off some leaves from the parking area. I then turned blower back on and turned power up to full blast. About two seconds after doing this the blower exploded. The fan/impeller blade disintegrated and blew out the right rear (the five o’clock position) of the casing. Parts of the red casing and gray blade were blown some thirty feet away. Fortunately I was holding the blower with my right hand as I was turning the power up and the force of the blast missed hitting me. But if I had had the blower in my left hand (as I often do when using it) I would have been hit in the groin area and upper leg and would have suffered very serious injuries. My wife was about twenty feet away from me when this happened and a piece of the casing just missed her. If one of my small grandchildren had been present he might well have been hit in the face. This blower is only about three years old. It is used about ten times a year at my home. It was not used in any commercial manner. I was very lucky not to have suffered any physical injury but someone else could get really get hurt. (Obviously, I’m pretty shook up!)

The product, in the report: TROY-BILT Leaf Blower TB180B (serial unlegiable) Item 41BA180G966
I was using my TROY-BILT leaf blower to blow the water off my truck after I washed it and the fan housing exploded. I had the blower at shoulder height as I was blowing the water off the truck hood when it exploded. The internal fan broke apart sending shrapnel everywhere, I was hit in the neck and 3/4 of the fan stayed together and hit me in the shoulder. I had two lacerations on my neck which thankfully did not do serious damage, instead just bled for 10 to 15 min. The big chunk of fan that hit my shoulder created a softball size bruise because it busted one of the veins that runs across my deltoid. It also busted the skin and bled a little through my shirt. I am blessed because I realize this could have been much worse, especially soo close to my head and eyes. I have a handful of pics to go with my claim, my wife was standing 4 feet away when it happened and she thought I some how got electrocuted when she heard the Big Bang and I dropped the blower and jumped away.

The product, in the report: Troybilt leaf blower TB197BV
I was using my leaf blower to blow off my back porch. I don’t have a lot of strength because I am going through chemo therapy- my arms were tired so I rested the blower against my left leg. The blower exploded- it happened to be the part that was up against my leg that busted/blew up and shot fire and plastic. I threw it down and ran away from it. It was shooting tiny plastic pieces everywhere and making loud noises for about a minute before it finally shut off. Thankfully I didn’t have to get stitches and it was no worse than it was. Unfortunately, it takes me a while to heal due to my current fight with cancer...now I’m having to baby a huge place on my upper thigh.

17JUN15 – ABOUT 10:30AM -11:00AM While attempting to use the blower to clean dust and dirt off the equipment concrete pad the blower exploded and injured the tip of my nose, the bottom of left shin and the top of left foot.
Description I plugged the blower into the extension cord, begin to blow off the equipment concrete pad located at the right rear of the house. Soon after turning the blower on, the blower exploded, sending shrapnic into the air striking my body in multiple areas. As the blower was disintegrating, I tossed the blower away from me and I tried to back away from the blower, but fell backwards onto my buttocks. Immediately, I got up and limped away from the disintegrating blower towards the garage. As I examined my legs, I noticed my lower leg bleeding and at that moment, the neighbor, [REDACTED] asked me “are you okay?” I answered, “yes, I believe so, just a little blood, I will be okay”. I limped over to the sidewalk near the garage and sat down. I immediately took my t-shirt off and wrap the injured area of my leg that was bleeding the most in order to reduce the bleeding.

The product, in the report: Troybilt Electric Leaf Blower
I was using my Troybuilt Electric Leaf blower and it made a noise. Within a second I felt my face on fire. I dropped the blower and put my hand to my face and it was bleeding profusely. I went to the emergency room and was treated. It took 10 stitches in my face to repair. The fan blade broke off in the blower and completely blew out the side of the blower and hit my face.

The product, in the report: Red, electric leaf blower
September 29, 2013 at 10:30 am, I was blowing the leaves out of my yard with my leaf blower, Troy-Bilt, electric blower/vacuum. It has only been used as a blower and not as a vacuum.
It blew up on me. The whole side of the blower and half of the impeller came off and hit me in my thighs. It his with such force it caused huge bruising and a large cut. Thankfully I was wearing jeans.
This product gave me no warning that anything was wrong before it blew. It did not shut off. I had to throw it down and run for the plug in and disconnect it.

UPON LOOKING AT THE BLOWER, I SAW THAT THE FAN HAD COME OFF ITS HOUSING, HAD BROKEN AND BROKE THROUGH THE PLASTIC SIDE OF THE BLOWER, ALTHOUGH IT DID NOT ESCAPE THE HOUSING COMPLETELY. I THINK THE PLASTIC HIT MY LEFT LEG AS IT WAS PUSHED OUTWARD BY THE FAN. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AT [REDACTED] WHERE I SPEND THE SUMMER. MY MAILING ADDRESS IS [REDACTED].

The product, in the report: Handeld Leaf Blower
The consumer says that she was blowing leaves when the suction sucked up her blouse and tore off most of it and left her left breast exposed. She says that the slats are about an inch wide and there are five slats. Her blouse was caught in a third slat.
In trying to get the unit off of her by twisting and turning, she injured her back. The consumer contacted the manufacturer who was very rude to her, asking what does she expect them to do.
She says she read the manual after the incident and it stated to avoid using loose clothing. Her blouse is still stuck in the leaf blower. The consumer would like to add that the representative who took the call was extremely rude.

The product, in the report: Troy Bilt TB120BV 12 amp 215 MPH blower
Today, (8/23) I was blowing my porch when the blower short circuited causing a large hole in my left leg, bruising the skin and flesh. This injury is very painful. I was wearing rubber soles on a wooden porch. This should not have happened. I believe you should notify dealers of this defect. I contacted Lowes as directed by the Base Exchange (Moody AFB, Valdosta, GA) where the puchase was made. On second look, it appears that something came loose and came through the housing hitting my cutting my leg causing a lot of pain and blood.

The product, in the report: Troy-Bilt 2-Cycle Mulching Blower/Vacuum
Troy-Bilt TB320BV Blower/Vacuum serial number:1J219DF6509
I bought this leaf blower 3 years ago and while I was using it for the 3rd time this year I suddenly realized I was soaked with gasoline. A fuel line or something must have broke and I was sprayed with gasoline. All of my lower body was covered with fuel. I looked but could not see any broken lines or other damage although I did not take it apart. When I phoned Troy-Bilt to see if there were any recalls I was asked if I drained the blower before I put it away for the winter. When I informed the customer service rep that I always drain all my tools and run them dry prior to storing them away for the winter she then informed me that the new gasoline today contains ethanol that eats away or compromise the fuel lines and that is probably what happened. She recommended a local authorized service shop that could repair it for me. I’m wondering if others are experiencing this problem? If they know that is happening maybe they should change the materials of the fuel lines and use another composition that stands up to the ethanol. It is very dangerous to suddenly be doused with gasoline.
