Hurt, no treatment Made Oct 8, 2019, sent to the company Nov 1, 2019, published by CPSC Nov 18, 2019
The product, in the report: Leaf Blower
The consumer indicates that he was using his leaf blower for approximately fifteen minutes when a burning rubber smell was emitted and the unit burst into flames by the engine. The flames were so hot that they melted through the metal of his extension cord. The consumer dropped the leaf blower on his driveway and immediately put out the flames. The consumer inhaled black smoke but was feeling better the next day.
The consumer has contacted the manufacturer thirteen times in the last two years because, after having explained the situation and being informed he would receive a replacement unit an extension cord, they have not honored their word.
The consumer states that the unit was used, on average, twelve times per year for about fifteen to thirty minutes.
The consumer plans on keeping his leaf blower for at least the next thirty days in case an investigation ensues.

No one hurt Made Oct 17, 2018, sent to the company Oct 26, 2018, published by CPSC Nov 9, 2018
The product, in the report: Electric Leaf Blower
I purchased a Homelite Model UT42100B (Serial # BM1618D290415) electric leaf blower from Home Depot approximately 2 years ago. I used it approximately 4 times in that period. The last time I used it is started to smoke and spark at the outlet. I found that there was a recall on Homelite Leaf Blowers previously. I contacted Homelite and they said my Model number was not on the recall list. I find that odd, since the same thing happened with my Homelite Leaf Blower.

Hospital admission Made Aug 31, 2018, sent to the company Sep 11, 2018, published by CPSC Sep 25, 2018
The product, in the report: Homelife electric leaf blower, #UT42100B 1461
Daily, I plug the blower into the electric outlet in the garage to blow debris out of the garage and driveway. On this occasion, while the blower was on, I placed my hand underneath to support the blower while also holding it from the handle. The plastic covering over the impeller fan cracked and my middle finger was sucked into the impeller. Blood splattered all over the garage floor and I dropped the blower and ran into the house to run my finger under the faucet and put pressure on the wound. The blood would not stop. I grabbed the phone to call my roommate to meet me at the emergency room.
My middle finger on the left hand was fractured as well as two major tendons completely severed. Surgery was required to repair the finger with a pin inserted to stabilize it for three months. I also sustained nerve and tissue damage and the finger is non-functioning. Two hand specialists, a trauma surgeon, and an occupational therapist are attempting to restore movement in that finger.

No one hurt Made Jul 10, 2018, sent to the company Jul 18, 2018, published by CPSC Aug 1, 2018
The product, in the report: Homelite leaf blower, model UT42100B. Electric Blower 120V 60Hz 7A, 2 speeds.
I was using a Homelite UT42100B leaf blower for about 10 minutes, and the power started to intermittantly fail, then I noticed the 120v connector was smoking. The plastic holding one of the 2 electrical prongs was melting.
I went online to see if I could buy replacement parts, but could find none. Perhaps it is best if it is not repaired anyway, as I saw there were other reports of fire and injury using similar looking homelite products.

The product, in the report: Homelite Leaf Blower Model # UT 42100B
When I plug the leaf blower ( Homelite Model #UT42100B) in, the prongs on the blower overheat and melt the cord outlet. I have used 3 different power cords with the same result. I called Homelite after seeing the recall for almost identical models, they said there was no recourse for this, even though it was a new purchase. I asked if I had to contact Consumer protection and was told “go ahead”

The product, in the report: Homelite electric blower/vacuum, Model UT42120, 2 speed, 220 MPH.
This is an electric Homelite blower vacuum Model UT42120. It already has a different recall, but wanted to add that the brass on the plugin came off and stuck in my extension cord and I could not dig it out, so had to throw away a brand new extension cord. The danger is that I didn’t know this until I tried to plug in the weed eater and there was something sticking out and I touched it like an idiot; fortunately it didn’t shock me.

The product, in the report: Homelite Mighty Lite 26cc backpacker leaf blower with red and black housing and a translucent white fuel tank
I recently purchased second hand a backpack blower from a pawn shop. I used it twice then did a tune up on the fuel lines and primer bulb. Upon doing this I noticed fuel coming from the center of the fuel tank. I actually didn’t think nothing about it just figured I spilled some fuel when I was changing the lines. I finished up blew of my driveway, then was interested in seeing how much the blower was selling for. So I typed in the name and the first thing I saw was a recall on it. I popped open the page and seen it was for a leaking fuel tank. OK so I got curious and went back to look at my blower and sure enough someone has put silicone on this thing to keep it from leaking. Mind you the leak is in the center of the tank in what appears to be a molded mounting hole not sure because of the silicone is in the way. The person that sold this to me had to know there was a problem and if like me, they looked up what it was worth they had to of seen the recall notice because it’s the first thing you see when you search this product online.

Emergency room Made May 21, 2015, sent to the company Jun 1, 2015, published by CPSC Jun 15, 2015
The product, in the report: Homelite leaf blower. Color red and black. 120V AC, 60Hz, 7AMP, 2 Speeds. Model UT42100
I was using my Homelite leaf blower to blow the leaves out of my landscape rock in my backyard. My right hand was holding the handle, but I began to lose my grip. I went to use my left hand to stabilize the blower while my right hand got a better grip on the handle. When I placed my left hand on the underside of the blower the plastic guard covering the intake fan broke off. My middle finger on my left hand fell into the fan and I experienced severe injury. I had my neighbor across the street take me to the ER at St. Mary’s Hospital. My nail was torn off, the distal phalange bone was broken in several areas, and the soft tissue to the tip of my finger was shredded requiring approximately eleven stitches. I have found pieces of the plastic strewn about my yard. I have been referred to see an orthopedic surgeon and a physical therapy center. I have been under their care since the incident.

No one hurt Made Apr 20, 2015, sent to the company May 11, 2015, published by CPSC May 26, 2015
The product, in the report: Leaf Blower
10/15/2014 - The consumer plugged the extension cord to the wall and the leaf blower to the extension cord. Approximately thirty minutes later, the consumer smelled smoke around him. When he looked to the ground, he noticed that there was flames where the leaf blower connected to the extension cord.
The consumer turned off the leaf blower and unplugged the extension cord from the wall.
The consumer put the leaf blower away and threw away the extension cord as it had melted. He indicates that he had to use a plumbing wrench to separate the extension cord and the leaf blower cord as they had welded together due to the fire.
The consumer indicates that he had owned the extension cord for at least ten years and never had any incidents with it prior to using it with the leaf blower. The consumer had used the extension cord with hedge trimmers, leaf blowers, vacuums, etc. and never experienced issues so he is certain the problem was the left blower by Homelite.
The consumer never used the leaf blower again.
The consumer indicates that he checked online to see if his unit had been recalled and his model is not included in any recall.
The consumer believes this product poses a safety and fire hazard. The consumer has no injuries to report. The consumer does not plan on contacting the manufacturer but does intend on returning the product to its place of purchase.
The consumer plans on purchasing a different leaf blower.

No one hurt Made Jan 22, 2015, sent to the company Feb 26, 2015, published by CPSC Mar 13, 2015
The product, in the report: back pack leaf blower; The consumer found the following unit number on the engine “UT08017E” and serial number “HP2342884”.
The consumer states the unit has a design flaw that poses a safety hazard. The consumer states the engine is pulled to an angle and when the unit is turned the fuel tank begins to leak gasoline. The consumer first noticed this issue about a month after purchasing the unit and contacted the firm but was getting the run around. The consumer has noticed that when the fuel tank is more than half way filled it leaks gasoline a lot more.
Another safety hazard that the consumer is concerned about is the location of the spark plug wire. The consumer states while he was using the unit the spark plug wire burned. This incident occurred about 5 months after he purchased the unit. The spark plug wire lays on top of the cylinder head and the muffler, parts that get very warm while in use.
The consumer began contacting the firm sometime in 09/2014 in regards to his safety concerns. The consumer states he has been getting the run around. The consumer has called 3-4 times and has not been able to file a report or receive any assistance. When the consumer calls he is told that he needs to contact a different department and he is provided a different number. The consumer is very upset with the way that the firm is handling this matter.
The consumer does not remember the date of purchase but believes he has had the unit for about an year and a half.
The consumer uses the unit about 30 times a week and for 15 minutes at a time.

I own a Homelite Leaf Blower Model UT08076S?N HT2750457? [see picture] and had an issue last weekend doing fall cleanup at my fathers house. I took off the impeller cover to untangle the strap and continue to operate the unit but the vibration was so bad I had to stop. See the attached photos for any questions.

Homelite, the Yard Broom, SH2025UB24RA 10-98, EM08552-01, Mod# UT08074B, S/NHT2801669. The unit gas tank is leaking when gas level is higher than the fuel lines causing skin irritation and gas soaked clothing creating a fire hazard. The serial # is within the range listed by [REDACTED] for a safety recall but Homelite hot line stated today that the model # above was not a part of the recall though there are very similar model #s. Gas leaks rapidly from the tank fuel lines creating an extreme fire hazard. If it had not been noticed and use discontinued of the tool, I or one of my children would have been exposed to this defect. Gas tanks like this should not leak especially when the tank is upright and the blower is placed level on a driveway. I did not notice the wetness of the gas on my sleeve until after I had started the blower. The leak starts whenever the fuel level is at the level of the fuel lines either when filled or when the blower is tilted to a position in which the fuel level reaches the lines

The product, in the report: Homelite BP250 Backpack Blower, UT08017E, Serial No. 2301242
Homelite BP250 Backpack Blower, UT 08017E, serial number HP2301242, leaks gasoline during normal use. Have not experienced a fire, but gasoline leaked onto clothes, creating irritation of skin. The fact that it did not ignite is considered pure luck. I have recently seen the recall of UT numbers 08017F and 08017G, but it appears the same problem exists with UT 08017E.

The product, in the report: Homelite Mightylite Backpack Leaf Blower.
I was using the Homelite Mightylite Backpack Blower to clear some debris ovv of my roof. Suddenly I felt something cold on my lower back then a stinging sensation. I stopped the unit by pressing the kill switch. The unit coughed (like a small backfire), then it died. Upon removing the from my back, I noticed fuel dripping from the tank. I went and took a shower then I returned to inspect the backpack blower. I found that the leak was coming from the center mounting bolt area on the tank. I took the unit to a small engine repair facility for replacement. As of today ( 19 months later) I still do not have my blower repaired or replaced. Luckly I felt the cold fule and was able to remove the defective unit from my body before I was badly injured. My wife just treated the hash that I received from the fuel. [REDACTED]

The product, in the report: 26cc Mightylite Backpack blower
Homelite backpack blower was leaking gasoline. We contacted the company last year about this and they did not tell us there was a recall. We went to use it this season and once again when my husband has it on his back it leaked gasoline all over his clothes. After calling the company a second time we were told to take it in for repairs but were still never informed that this was a recall. I learned myself it was a recall when doing research online. It ruined the clothes he was wearing. We were unable to get the gasoline smell out.
