  1. Hurt, no treatment

The product, in the report: Dolmar PB7601.4 Gasoline Powered Backpack Leaf Blower

I purchased a Dolmar backpack blower on November 19th, 2013. The concern has been what seems to be a faulty switch on the trigger handle and intermittently sends a shock through the trigger handle assembly. The blower often runs flawlessly, but then sometimes it acts like it is shorting out and trying to turn off. It sends a shock pulse through my arm, even if I have gloves on when this acts up.

I have taken it in to 2 separate Dolmar dealers to see if they can solve this safety hazard while it is still under warranty. I have also made numerous attempts to contact Dolmar with little to no response. After numerous attempts they responded saying:

“From the issue described below, the problem is static discharge from dust particles being drawn into the volute case and the discharge point of the static electricity is the screw in the on/off switch. Our factory created an anti static belt sold for the blowers as an accessory, the belt works well when limited amounts of debris/dust is being drawn in.”

This is clearly a known defect that the manufacturer should repair under warranty and may need to issue a recall. The shock hazard is significant enough to inflict pain even when wearing gloves to avoid the shock.
