The gas cap for my 3 year old Craftsman backpack leaf blower (model: CMXGAAH46BT) does not seal properly and at times leaks gas on my back. This is dangerous. I am unable to get a replacement cap. Craftsman website states the engine is made by Husqvarna; therefore, obtain parts from them. Husqvarna website says part number unknown. Lowes sells the blower but not the replacement part. I am unable to find a matching replacement gas cap. This has happened multiple times

Caller is reporting that his leaf blower caught fire while in use for approximately 30 mins. He stated that the unit started to slow down, he smelled a burning odor and then the motor erupted in flames. Caller stated that the incident destroyed the motor, he was able to contain the fire by smothering the flames with a bag of sand and stones.
10/1/18 Caller contacted the manufacturer and he was informed that he could take the unit to a repair facility. Caller stated that he was dissatisfied with the company for not taking responsibility in the safety of the product.. Caller feels that this leaf blower vac is a fire hazard and should be reported.

When using Craftsman Leaf Blower model 138.74899 Serial number “SET0780152 03/19/14” suddenly the blower caught fire with huge orange fireball and the blower 2 print plug and the cord got burnt. This was in dry sunny weather about 50F temperatures. Very scary experience. So I looked up and seems there is a recall for the same reason but my serial number mentioned above was not included and should be.
I just made a call to the The Craftsman brand hotline toll-free at 888-266-7096 but they are trying to weasel out saying my blower is not included even though model 138.74899 is included my serial number falls out of range. Also I used good quality single 3 prong orange extension cord of AWG16 3/C 1.31mm2 cord they are trying to find some reason and asked for photos that I have sent them. Request to please expand the recall as this is a dangerous product that can harm US citizens.

I received a tuft fracture with multiple lacerations on my dominant left hand while I was using my craftsman 138.74899 leaf blower/vac. I was working for an hour and I put the machine down and it stopped working. I readjusted the cord and it worked until I picked it up then it stopped again. A black piece of plastic was hanging from my machine and I pushed it back in place the machine started and I received my injury. There wasn’t any type of grill or mesh over the impeller to stop anything from going into the impeller. A child could have a hand taken off. This machine is extremely dangerous.

I was using the Craftsman blower and it started on fire. The motor burned up on it. I contacted Sears to report the incident, but they said I would have to contact Craftsman which I did. They did nothing about it. I saw the recall offer, but when I called about it, they said I wasn’t eligible as I no longer had the blower. I do have documentation that I had purchased the blower from Sears and the box it was in. I was concerned about the blower and the fire. I reported it and it should have been easier to get the concern resolved.

The product, in the report: My order information: “07174899000 Craftsman 12 amp Electric Blower and Vacuum Sold By: Sears” It has a red motor, a black removable blower tube w/ removable tip, a leaf mulching bag & mulching tube. The power cord hangs off the back and is black.
I was using the leaf blower for it’s intended purpose of pushing leaves around the yard for about 10 minutes when I notice it began to get very hot. I looked down and there was black smoke emanating from the power cord/plug location. I immediately powered the blower down and yanked the extension cord from the plug on the unit and set it on the pavement in my driveway to cool. My extension cord was destroyed/melted and I threw it away.

The product, in the report: Sears Craftsman electric 220 mph variable speed leaf blower
I was using an electric Craftsman leaf blower, Model 358.748260, to clear fallen leaves from landscaped areas in my yard. It caught fire, with the fire burning where the prongs plug in to the cord. Within a minute I was able to disconnect the unit, at which time the flames were extinguished. Both the blower and cord are no longer usable. In researching this issue online, I found that other Craftsman electric leaf blower models have been recalled. We purchased this unit directly from Sears in 2007, and used it only briefly every Fall to clean up fallen leaves in our yard. I contacted Sears Home Service and their representative told me that this model has not been recalled.
Based on my experience, this Craftsman leaf blower model should be recalled, due to potential fire hazard as a result of only light use.

Caller stated that he just started using the leaf blower and the unit started emitting smoke from the plug for the extension cord. This incident melted the electrical cord where the prongs were located. There was also smoke emitting from the blower.
6/22/14 The retailer was contacted and he was informed to file a complaint with the agency. He feels that this leaf blower is a fire hazard and should be reported.
