The product, in the report: Black and Decker BV6000 Blower/Vacuum/Mulcher
The blower/sucker attachment (the black extruded cylinder) that attaches to the fan and motor of the equipment continuously came off very easily even after being fully locked into place. This happened over 10 times on 4 different occasions. On the 20th I cut my leg fairly badly from the metal fan but did not go to the hospital.

Emergency room Made Aug 23, 2015, sent to the company Aug 31, 2015, published by CPSC Sep 15, 2015
The product, in the report: Leaf Blower/Mulcher/Vacuum
While using a Black and Decker Leaf Blower/Vacuum/Mulcher I lifted it to blow out the bed of a truck. I lifted the device with my right hand and used my left hand to steady it. The plastic cover over the mulcher came off and my ring finger on my left hand was hit by the mulcher. The finger was broken and required stitches. I was NOT using the product in an unusual or irresponsible manner. The product has a safety feature that prevents it from starting if the cover is not secure but the mulcher does not stop immediately if the cover comes off while in use. The plastic cover pops off very easily and has come loose during normal use.
The injury was painful and will require months to heal. Doctor’s reports and pictures of the injury are available if needed.

No one hurt Made Jul 2, 2014, sent to the company Jul 31, 2014, published by CPSC Aug 14, 2014
The product, in the report: low powered leaf blower, 18 volt, cordless, single speed, hand held blower (18 volt rechargeable batteries)
The consumer turned the blower to the “on” position and there was a tremendous loud noise and smaller pieces of broken plastic flew from the blower’s vent. He immediately turned the blower off.
The hard, clear, plastic fan blade is located in the bottom of the assembly that is held in the hand and it disintegrated in this instance. Some of the pieces hit the consumer’s clothing, but he did not sustain any injury. The large pieces of the fan blade remained inside the blower’s housing.
At a later time, the consumer disassembled the blower for further examination. He saw that in the mounting assembly, the area where the fan blade screws onto the motor was damaged. The collar that goes on to the threaded brass fitting, which secures the screw for the fan’s blade failed. The consumer is not exactly sure, but this is what appears to have happened after he disassembled it.
The consumer conducted research on-line and was looking to see if he could find a replacement fan blade, but he found that parts were not available.
6/30/2014 & 7/1/2014: The consumer called the manufacturer and was directed to their authorized service center, but that is when he confirmed that parts are no longer available.
There is a date code on the batteries for the latter part of 2006. The consumer is not sure if he received it in 2007, 2008 or later.
The consumer’s main concern is that the pieces could fly out at a high velocity and injure someone severely depending upon where it hit them.

The product, in the report: High Performance Blower Vac (leaf blower and mulcher)
Greetings:
About two weeks ago my Black and Decker Leaf Hog leaf blower/mulcher caught on fire while I was using it. The rear area of the motor was in flames and the plastic housing partially melted. I was not harmed and there was no property damage. There is nothing wrong with the electrical system in my home, as I have used other outdoor appliances and equipment before and after this incident.
I am reporting this to you because I just called Black and Decker and was told that although I know the item is no longer under warranty (I purchased it four years ago) there is nothing they can do. I was given fererence number [REDACTED]. Then I was referred to an authorized repair center who informed me that I can bring the unit in for inspection but most likely will not be able to replace it.
I am reporting this because I am shocked that Black and Decker would not stand behind and honor the direct replacement of a product they manufactured that caught on fire in my hands.
I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely, [REDACTED]
