The product, in the report: It is a bug zapper, model #WD-9017. Resident bought it off of Amazon and searching the model number shows several different brands. Possible brand is Mosiller, also marketed several times as mosquito swatter.

A bug zapper was in a charging base and caught fire, or was hot enough to catch items next to it on fire. Small fire occurred and broke out a window.

The product, in the report: Electric Fly Swatter Racket, Mosiller 2 in 1 Smart Bug Zapper & Power Take Off Generators with USB Rechargeable Base, Powerful Mosquitoes Trap Lamp & Fly Killer for Home, Bedroom(Light Grey2 Pack)

Mosiller electric fly swatter purchased from Amazon.com on 11/1/25 caught fire while charging. I am a public fire department fire investigator and ruled out other ignition sources. This was the probable ignition source. Mutliple amazon reviews state similar circumstances that the flyswatter will catch fire while charging.

Around 5AM Sunday 10/26/2025 I was awoekn by the smoke detectors in my home. I got up to see a huge orange glow and 3ft high flames burnign on my desk where an Electronic Fly Swatter had been plugged into a USB port. I felt like there was seconds left to put htis fire out as it was already consuming papers on my desk and looked like a large campfire. I smothered the flames with a towel that then proceeded to burn my hand. The melted plastic from the fly swarrer was like molten. I was terrified to approach the burning flames but it felt like I had no choice. It was down to seconds to try and stop it or the whol ehouse would have gone up in flames. Even more terrifying is I travel alot for work - this device has been in its base for more than a year and often left unattended. Had I not been home, this would easily have become a major house fire. The aftermath left a massive burn mark on my desk and a sooty oily coating on everything. Walls ceilings, and was very toxic. I spent a full day vacuuming and cleaning and the doors and windows are still open to get risd of the smell. The good is there is nothing like a first hand experience to realize (1) you have seconds to act, not miunutes (2) the toxic smoke almost incapacitated me (3) this mustve been a lithium Ion battery fire, I am no longer going to charge my devices unattended - ever. (4) I have bought fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and wil be subscibing to my home alarm company for remote fire monitoring. This is no joke - its left me traumatized. It turns out many other amazon reviewers (where I ppurchased this) warned of this exact thing happening. Wow! Shame on me for not reading up properly on this dangerous product

The product, in the report: Amazon. Mosiller 2 in 1 Bug Zapper with Auger USB Rechargeable Base, 4000 Volt Indoor Outdoor Mosquito Killer with 3-Layer Safety Mesh for Pest Insect Control & Flying Trap.

I bought mosiller 2 in 1 bug zappers in July 2023 on Amazon. One caught on fire today and nearly burned the house down. I think a large fly might have landed in it and caused a shortage or the fly simply caught on fire and then started burning and caught the zapper on fire . Fortunately I was nearby and could put the fire out. It had started burning the nearby cabinttes pretty quickly. I have a photo
