The product, in the report: Utilitech Motion Activated Security Light, item 0803995 Model 6222B-PIR24

I purchased and had installed by an electrician, a Utilitech motion activated security light model number 6222B-PIR24. The item was installed on January 9th, 2019. Sometime between July 23rd 2021 and July 25th 2021, the motion lights stayed on continuously until the product caught fire and melted, destroying the fixture and blackening five sheets of aluminum siding. An electrician verified today August 3rd, 2021, that the wiring is properly installed, the product is defective.

The product, in the report: UTILITECH - Model 3418301 Motion-Activated Solar powered lighting purchase at LOWES in Dover, DE UPC 5461600393 7

One of two motion-activated solar powered security lights caught fire. The units were mounted on the rain gutter on the side of our home. The fire caused the battery door to melt and the battery fell out burning the grass. This occurred at approximately 3:15 PM. My wife saw the smoke and alerted me. We removed both units from the home. The units are manufactured by UTILITECH model# 3418301.

  3. No one hurt

Made Aug 10, 2012, sent to the company Aug 27, 2012, published by CPSC Sep 11, 2012

The product, in the report: Utilitech #042122 Landscape Light with Sensor Sold at Lowe’s The number on the box bottom of the bad box is 625-1494. The good batch is 625-0226. The bad batch has a CAution: Risk of Fire other numbers on the box are 0212 IC50030301229574. The old box had no caution. The new box is 7 inches high and the old box was 11 1/2 inches high

We have been purchasing the Utilitech #0042122 75w Landscape Light with Sensor for several years now from Lowe’s and have been very satisfied. All we have to do is change the halogen bulb when it burns out. Earlier this year on April 23, 2012 we purchased 6 more at Lowe’s. So far 3 of them have exploded and the last one took out our GFI plug so we had to have someone replace it. The glass shatters and unit is dead. Lowe’s has been refunding our money and we told them the problem, but we also wrote to the company Cooper Lighting to tell them that this batch of lights is bad and dangerous. The number on the box bottom of the bad box is 625-1494. The good batch is 625-0226. The bad batch has a CAution: Risk of Fire other numbers on the box are 0212 IC50030301229574. The old box had no caution. The new box is 7 inches high and the old box was 11 1/2 inches high. We asked where we can get the old batch of lights. We said we know why the new box has “risk of fire” and the old box did not have that caution. We told them these lights are dangerous and we are going to contact our state attorney general. We know Cooper Lighting is not in Michigan, but the Lowe’s stores that carry these lights are.

We have one more light from this batch never used in a box. But we don’t know if it will explode or not.
