The product, in the report: As best I can determine by what’s left of the packaging (and pics while it was burning... we were a bit stunned at what we were witnessing and I’ll admit to some slow reaction from a forensic path... get this thing off the porch), without disturbing the remains of the light, it is a Commercial Electric LED Spin Light. There may be other clues in the pictures. I have not disturbed the remains of the light, as shown in pictures, in hopes that some determination may be reached as to why this occurred. I plan on taking it to the retailer in the morning at their suggestion after a conversation with their help line folks tonight.
I purchased a “spin light” manufactured by Commercial Electronics at Home Depot about 6 months or so ago. It has been awaiting installation since then (bought for an interior stair well... not a huge priority) and its been sitting on a table on our covered back porch awaiting its turn on the honey-do list. The box was never opened. Last night, I walked out to our porch after dinner and the box was smoking. It subsequently, and quickly, caught fire. I grabbed a spatula from the table and threw the now flaming light into the yard. My wife responded to some words I’d rather not repeat, and we watched in amazement as the thing burned ... we were honestly kinda stunned at what we were seeing. I threw it in a bucket of water after taking some “you gotta be kidding me” pics. Very thankful that we caught it (it was sitting on a wooden table (scorched, but still serviceable)... quite literally at bed time... and where it was, had it not been caught it would have burned our log home to the ground... table to railing, railing to deck... gone.) We were lucky... our concern is for others who have these things.
