The product, in the report: Poulan Pro front wheel drive mowerPR174Y22RHP

I purchased a Poulan Pro PR174Y22RHP. It arrived and the front wheel drive never engaged and the mower started on its own even when I wasn’t touching it. I used it for a total of 1 hour. I called Poulan and they sent a dealer to pick up and inspect the machine. They claimed that they would not repair or warranty anything due to severe abuse of the machine. The machine was returned to me with a used blade and a broken mulched and worn belt. The dealer who sent the pics and warranty info to Poulan stripped my brand new mower if all new parts replaced them with used broken parts and blamed me for misusing the machine. I have since replaced the belt 3 times, once after every use because the belt will not stay on the front wheel drive train. Poulan refused to do anything about it and never addressed why the machine turned on on its own. I do not feel safe with this machine. I purchased it from amazon who had stopped selling this mower due to so many complaints

The product, in the report: Poulan Self Propelled Lawn Mower with Kohler engine. Model #961420071-01

This Spring when I had finished mowing my lawn, I placed the mower in the garage. The next morning I awoke to the strong smell of gasoline permeating throughout my home. I discovered the source of the smell was my Poulan lawn mower. All of the remaining gasoline in it’s tank had leaked out onto my garage floor. In trying to determine the cause, I discovered that anytime the mower is shut off, the gasoline leaks from the carburetor. The defective carburetor is on a Kohler engine, (model # XT173-0084). Upon researching the mower on the internet, I found countless individuals having the same problem. Any gasoline left in the tank leaks freely from the carburetor. I also learned from the Internet other people were told to install a fuel shut-off valve to prevent the gasoline from reaching the carborator when it is shut off, however that does not really solve the problem. This to me is just a band-aid and does not solve the problem with the defective carborator. Also I was told that rebuilding the carborator did not solve the problem either. I contacted Kohler and was told to call a local repair facility. When I explained the problem to them (QC Power Equipment Inc. Davenport, IA) they were familiar with the problem but had no solutions. They told me that they would contact the Kohler representative and get back with me. Since I was not contacted in 2 weeks, I called QC Power again and was told they had not heard from Kohler. I have continued to call QC Power and still they have not had a phone call from Kohler. I am greatly inconvienced by not being able to use my mower which I have had for only one year but also I don’t want my home or anyone else’s to burn down as this is definitely a fire hazard. I am requesting the CPSC look into this situation that could result in a senseless loss of life.
