As each report says it, in short words; CPSC’s own words are under each.

The reports, as CPSC published them

Reports people made to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. CPSC publishes each one after sending it to the company named, and doesn’t guarantee they’re accurate. A report isn’t a recall.

Each report is the words of the person who made it, as CPSC published them. The company’s comments, where CPSC published any, are set apart as the company’s own.

  1. No one hurt

Made Aug 24, 2017, sent to the company Sep 1, 2017, published by CPSC Sep 19, 2017

The product, in the report: A walk-behind, gas-powered, rotary push lawn mower

Last month, when starting the lawnmower the cast-metal blade adapter (Part no. 748-0377C), which orients the blade on the engine shaft, broke sending a piece of the adapter’s collar into the blade flinging it out from under mower. In other words, a cast metal part that holds the blade to the lawn mower engine became a piece of shrapnel.

The lawn mower is an 11-year old, Series 420 walk-behind, gas-powered, rotary mower with a 21 inch blade that is manufactured by MTD LLC (Model No. 11A429R729 S/N IC281I11486).

While the adapter is subject to a lot of stress, the cast part must have had a defect for it to break. I have saved the original part as well as high resolution pictures.
